VAR

i think it needs tweaking but not removed as it can be very useful tool for refs. I hate right now the fact that i can celebrate goal the moment the ball goes in the net as i feel obliged to wait on var decisions

but if var was purely used as a reference tool and not have influence on games that would be better

Offside and goal line should be kept.

They're black and white rules that are in no way subjective.

No. We just need a better system.
Firstly, the VAR team should be dedicated, not on-field refs. They should be trained specifically for that role.
Secondly, we should use the technology available for offside. Seems far easier to get a quick and correct call.
Thirdly, their needs to be a review of the training and development of on field officials. Could even be an argument to bring the best from Abroad over to the PL.

There are many ways to improve what we have, but I think getting rid of VAR would be a massive back step.

On balance VAR is good for the game. Yes there are some incompetent people operating it atm, but its corrected way, way more than it's got wrong.

Having said all of that, I hate it and i'd still be up for scrapping it on the basis that its almost killed that feeling of celebrating a goal.

It's here to stay though, regardless.

No, it should stay. We just need to use it better and make it transparent.
1-All coms need to be played live, even between the ref and players, like rugby.
2- All the "clear an obvious error" bull needs to stop. Any error that is significant needs to be called. The current implimentation Pgmol is using to only serves to protect the reputation and jobs of the refs. Thats not their remit, they should be protecting the integrity of the game and competition.

Also,
3- they need to remove the restriction on AI. AI can help make decisions quicker by e.g drawing lines in real-time and calling offsides straight away.

posted on 3/10/23

They either need to use it decisively or not at all.

None of this, clear and obvious error malarky. If it needs to go to VAR, let VAR make the decision as they have a much better view 99% of the time. Sending the ref to a monitor where they have a freeze frame of the worst part of the incident doesn't tell the whole story and it plants the decision in the referees mind from the get go.

Any idea why the clubs voted against the semi-automated offsides? At the moment theres too many times we're looking via cameras that aren't in line with the incident. Stick a camera on the linesmans head so you can see across th epitch

Some really good suggestions on here which makes you wonder how the powers that be manage to be so bad at it.

Personally I would like it scrapped. It is taking all the joy out of being a supporter.

Just leave it to the ref. It will be swings and roundabouts for every team, as it was for 140 years before VAR.

Your second points captures one of the biggest issues with reffing/VAR.

They all feel as if the world is against them, so they look after each other . The rules protect them and are done so to maintain the integrity of the on field ref Well that aint working.

The audio they've shared you have them referring to each other as "mate". There needs to be utter professionalism not matyey stuff going on.

That admission by that ex-ref who said he didnt call the Romero hair pull matter to the screen because "the ref had already had a tough game"...it just goes to show that they are a little union who look after each other and the rules and protocols are there to protect this.

The refusal to air the comms. like they do in rugby is just another example of them trying to hide and protect themselves.

Its actually a false economy as the lack of transparency just makes them look like bigger fools because decisions are not explained, which makes you question the process.

Keep VAR but improve how it is implemented.

I'd scrap it.. As others have said, that unbridled joy of a goal going in has more or less gone now.

Seems there were some huge bets on Spurs to win on Saturday placed in South East Asia? Interesting.

This part if things is so overly egged to the point it's pretty much nonsense.

I mean I'm not saying it never happens but those saying that they never know when to celebrate a goal are talking bollox if we're honest.

I won £170 on a £1 bet on that match 🥳

It will never be scrapped now that we've had it this long. It just needs to be changed.

Goalline technology works great.

Offsides are a nightmare so use the fancy system that the European clubs are using until something better comes along. This drawing lines ballacks ain't working and takes too long anyway.

Leave VAR for red cards and penalties but the rules need to be cleared up massively so we don't get the inconsistencies every week. Refs need to be trained better with the technology too as there's clearly issues with the system or communication.

Just teach the refs who operate it at Heathrow to apply it properly according to the current rules of the game.

It cant be that hard.

If they cant yet anybody who can interpret the rules correctly against a picture or moving pictures then just bin it.

it wouldn’t surprise but as per usual as lot of Asians watch Spurs due Sonny link 👍

Make VAR a non impartial tool ref can use to check things like was that offside then it is clear yes or no
ref then can use info to stay with his original decision

Maybe people lumped on once Liverpool went down to 10 men. And lumped on some more when Liverpool went down to 9 men? Not unusual betting patterns really.

yes my opinion too

Can see why people say yes, but i believe its helped them get more decisions correct than ever before. Theres no issue with the technology really other than it could be improved for speed etc which it has been for offsides in europe already with a semi automated system etc?

I dont want to go back no, frustrating as it is the sheer incompetence of officials in the prem i think the stats would show they get more decisions right with VAR. So its a keep for me.
