Again, autism technically isn't an injury

Obviously fat Ronaldo - before he became fat. Up to that ruptured tendon in '99, best player in the world since Maradona. Lost his explosive pace and redefined his game, but was never the same after that. Could still have gone on to achieve more if he maintained the same hunger and drive, but became a womanizing party animal and was much diminished as a footballer.

Robben: would have come very close to the level of Messi/Ronaldo in terms of overall threat and contribution as he's shown on that short stretch at RM and later at Bayern.

Ibrahimovic: would still be amazing throughout his 30s- 40s without any pace left and just with his big body, technical skills and mentality.

Alessandro Nesta: Late knee injuries around his 30s prevented him of having a long carreer at the elite lvl. Like Tiago Silva, another legend, could have gone on towards his 40s purely on his game IQ and clean defending. The most elegant and smartest defender I've ever seen.

With R9 and V Basten you could argue that it wasn't per sé the injury itself that done them in. VB had a quack/controversial doctor operating on his ankle and then it was FUBAR... R9 @ Inter I believe already had some major issues with weight management due to undiagnosed hormonal/thyroid illnesses. But yeah even despite that both already have massive accomplishments...

Neymar

From Chelsea - Robben

On a lesser scale it would be interesting to see what kind of numbers Shearer put up if he didn't have three serious injuries

posted on 19/10/23

R9 is the clear winner, but Roberto Baggio would have been a good one

Casiraghi probably would have been some player

Different team but always thought Dean Ashton would have been a top class player

R9 would be mine but there's a few that spring to mind.

Pato, Shearer and Owen could all have been ridiculous, or even more ridiculous.

Rob Jones of course as he's a hero of mine and it would've been nice to see an injury free Agger, Fowler too.

Roy Keane too. He was a proper box to box midfielder. I think he was only 26 when he did his knee? Would have been good to see him in his prime without the knee injury.

Paul McGrath from an ROI perspective

McGrath is a great shout.

Baggio. Not sure how I forgot him as he's one of my favourite ever players.

He could have used that down time to create a super human footballing child like Alfie did.

If Robbo hadnt been so injury prone he would have smashed the England appearnace record. England could have won the World Cup in 86 or90 and United might have won the Fpotball League before they did under Fergie. Best CMF player United have had since Bobby Charlton.

Good shout, although I think some of his injuries also made him the hero he was tonso many.

RVN, would have been interesting to see what he’d have been like without doing his ACL.

I think we would have won the league in 98/99 had casiraghi stayed fit.
Just started scoring, looked really good then horror injury. Think we finished 4 points off utd with them fighting on three fronts.

Baggio as an 18yr old was scary talented... guy was very quick, after his 2 year injury hell he lost so much of it he had to radically change his style of play.

I thought he only scored once for Chelsea?

Casiraghi was never a prolific goal scorer though, he rarely ever broke into the double figure mark for the season.

Interesting stat:

Casiraghi's one goal in his Chelsea career makes him the 2nd most prolific striker in the past 30 years for Chelsea.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah his all round game was fantastic but he just wasn't finding the net. He finally got the goal and then got injured. But the way he led the line, and if he could have popped up with more goals we would have been in with a real chance. Our top scorer only had 13 goals that season, so even another 10 or so would have been huge.

From what I remember Vialli came back in and replaced him and was far better?
