It’s a bloody lot of money for a player with his numbers.
Think Toney will go to Arsenal or Chelsea. There’s a dearth of top quality out and put strikers around these days, with the way the game has evolved.
He is one of those strikers where it's not so much about what he does do, but what he doesn't do. And what he doesn't do is score goals.
I honestly don't think having him up front is an issue. He's shown enough for me to deserve to play based on what we have. He just needs better service IMO.
Put him in any of the top sides and he'd have a few league goals by now.
He has barely any service as all our supporting players are play crap, he also gets taken off when other players should be going off before him.
He’s certainly not the problem. If he played for City he’d have 5 or 6 league goals by now.
Ironically it's Rashford who has made most of his chances too. Set him up away at Bayern, home to Galatasaray and also involved in some of the goals he's had narrowly chalked off too.
Antony might make a single chance for him before May. I will keep my fingers crossed.

That kinda misses the point though. Why spend that much on a striker to join a side that he was never going to succeed at this season. Surely it would be better to find a striker that would suit what we’re trying to do and plays to our strengths.
The Danish Darren Huckerby, will score some crackers but doubt he ever bags 20 a season.
So much of what United achieved last year was down to a stodgy defence, peak Casemiro and Rashford hitting one of his purple patches. Loads of low score narrow wins. This year, Casemiro looks finished, the defence has suffered major injuries and Rashford is most definitely not in a purple patch.
Ivan Toney for United, Chelsea or Arsenal seems very logical, one of them will take the risk and I think it will pay off. Alternatively, Evan Ferguson at Brighton looks like he will be a star and has the physique that could allow Hojlund to play off him
Reminds me of Darwin Nunez of last season, looks like he has some ingredients there but probably a season or two away from being able to lead the line regularly for a side wanting to compete for top 4
It wasnt a mistake buying Hojlund. It was a gamble as 'one for the future'. Before he joined United he has only ever played c.30 first class games of football at anywhere near the required standard.
He certainly isnt right now the immediate longterm answer to Uniteds CF problems that have been going on for years whilst managers have juggled with players like Martial, Greenwood, Cavani, Rashford, Ronaldo and Weggy.
I like the look of the lad, but we should have gone for an established Prem proven striker. Watkins or Wilson.
We needed a reliable goalscorer and we signed someone that isn’t.
Whatever players we bought this summer, we would have huge squad holes in the areas that we neglected as a consequence.
We certainly could have done with signing a more experienced CF as well as Hojlund. Or at least another to improve our options generally.
We also need to remember that Hojlund had zero preseason, and then off the back of an injury has been cutting his teeth right away in the PL. In context you'd have to say that what we've seen of him so far has been very impressive.
Back in the summer I floated the idea of looking to someone like Viktor Gyokeres as a cheap punt from the Championship who might be at that point in his career where, like Toney, he was ready to step up a level. Well, he moved to Sporting Lisbon from Coventry and has 8 goals in 10 games + 3 this year for Sweden. At £17.5m that looks excellent business and surely would have been a better option than absolutely nothing at all.

I jokingly suggested Kieffer Moore in the Summer but I suppose he could offer an aerial threat and be a player to play off. He also does quite well with Dan James... #DanBack
It was important we replaced weghorst’s goals, I think we’ve done that
Rasmus isn't the problem. and whist Toney would be a great addition, he won't fix anything.
Both of those players need movement around them to work. Yesterday, Rasmus did a pretty good job of holding the ball and making things difficult for their CB's. but Rashord and Bruno were nowhere to be seen.
We should've been hitting Rasmus quickly and running off him. Instead we passed it around 5 times and lost the ball every time.

Agreed. Cannot see how anyone can put him into conversation. If he was a lot older he would have had a row with a lot of players (manager included).
Current England internationals.... Kane, Maddison, Rice and JWP all moved clubs this summer. Talented, English (who probably understand the prestige of playing for someone like United) yet you didn't appear to be in for any of them. Surely all 3 would walk into this current United team.
Hojlund looks a decent prospect BUT i fear a Struggling Man United under intense media & fan pressure is hard place to develop... Might not have been the best move for him at this point in his career

Correct, we're still short of a first choice RB, CB, CM and RW imo. Then better squad options at LB, CM and CF.
That's 7 players an about £300m.
However the money we did spend, was spent badly imo. All of Amrabat, Onana and Mount have been really poor so far, Hoijlund is too raw just now and probably a player who should be backup to a top striker, Reguion is what he is, probably an okay squad player.
Call me crazy but there’s possibly a legit argument that we could have left Ronaldo and used the Mount and Hojlund money to improve the midfield and wings.
