We shouldn't forget Rasmus isn't our only striker, we have Martial and Rashford who can play there and they take up a large chunk of the wage bill.

Rashford was striker for a long period and was woeful. Martial has always suited this team better but ETH loves the big lump striker. His Ajax period was telling. His success was mostly with a withdrawn 9. He goes on and changes to a target man and could not match the performance. I'm not sure he knows the formation that works for him.

Lukaku looked better for you than hojlund does so far.

It might just be becoming clearer and clearer that Bruno might well be the issue that is the glue keeping all this poor play together. Would like to see an experiment of him not playing for 10 games and seeing what happens.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I mentioned in the Summer that we could well see some players sold that we didn't expect. ETH to sell Bruno and get Donny playing like prime Zidane!

Call me crazy but there’s possibly a legit argument that we could have left Ronaldo and used the Mount and Hojlund money to improve the midfield and wings.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It got to the stage with Ronaldo that other players were trying to blow the ball into the net for him to reach his own personal milestones.

Personally think Bruno is massively overrated. Seems like totally the wrong character to be captain of a team with some pretty weak personalities. Comes across a whiny little bltch. Doesn't lead by example with his performances or attitude... He might be a big reason for your troubles

I think he's very good but sometimes gets indulged a little bit. He seems to be good for Portugal and in a more disciplined role too by all accounts. Perhaps it's instruction but he tries to play the hero ball too quickly at times for United. Perhaps he feels he has too. We're just not a functioning team at present. There are mitigating circumstances I suppose with having a whole back four and usual DM out yesterday but I do think we should be seeing better nonetheless.

Bruno needs to keep things simple 80% of the time and try those hail mary's 20% of the time, right now it's the other way around.

How can we build pressure, keep possession and sustain attacks when he is always trying the impossible?

Hojlund isn't ballooning chances over the bar, scuffing his shots, stopped making runs. His chances are few and far between, hence his poor goal retur.
In general he is a striker and won't make many chances himself.

If the whole team played with the heart and commitment shown by Hojlund yesterday the team would have left the pitch with pride even in defeat.

The boos when he was taken off instead of Rashford said it all and exposed the timidity of the manager hooking the kid rather than a so lazy and uninterested so called superstar.

----------------------------------------------------------------

ETH consistently played Martial and praised him last season, and Martial kept getting injured after playing about 45 minutes. It's not anti-Martial favouritism.

As for Ajax, ETH had success with a wide range of different profiles. He played a tricky false nine in his best CL campaign. More of a traditional target man in the league at the same time. And a much more mobile, dynamic centre forward in Haller in his second generation side.

Who is doing the transfers now, are these ten hags signings?

I think so. The Dutch connections are telling.

But as Ole has revealed, the reason Maguire got a game over others is because he cost the club a lot of money.... and therefore he plays.

Hojlund was not a mistake but not getting an experienced CF with guaranteed goals for a few seasons was.

However, the main issue for Hojlund is he's feeding off scraps, the players who occupy both flanks are incapable of creating quality chances consistently, that's his main issue.

Was it a mistake buying him and him alone up top?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nope. But playing him alone up top probably is. Looks lost and isolated. As does Rashford on the left.

He’s certainly not the problem. If he played for City he’d have 5 or 6 league goals by now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That kinda misses the point though. Why spend that much on a striker to join a side that he was never going to succeed at this season. Surely it would be better to find a striker that would suit what we’re trying to do and plays to our strengths.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What are our strengths at the moment?

Absolutely. I did say we needed another goal scorer as we just didn't have enough goals in our team.

I didn't think it would be this bad though.

Ignoring Carrick who only oversaw 3 games, ETH currently has the highest win rate of any manager in United history. Not sure the criticism is fully justified yet.
