If human rights mattered then we wouldn't be able to have another world cup anywhere

A lot of huge sporting events are being held in Saudi, so much money in it for all concerned over there.

its only a matter of time before this comes the norm.

I think the link you make ref Hitler is way off tho, there are two different, and obvious motives between the two events.

It is not way off. Saudi is one of 15 nations that have the death penalty for atheism in their statutes.
It is a human right to believe or not believe in God, or have we forgotten 9/11, 7/7, or Charlie Hebdo?

Grey, as an Atheist myself, I of course think that its ridiculous, you're missing the point.

Its about sport, and sport only - the Hitler link is way off because there was act of provocation instructed by the FA (so you say)... unless you're suggesting the same will happen again? - I doubt it, didn;t see any of that during the massive boxing events recently? - did you?

No, I did not watch the boxing. You cannot separate sport from the rest of life. Before you accuse me of making things up I suggest you consult the accepted history.
Sorry in life there are standards to be set and maintained
I did not watch the final in Qatar. I spent my time reading up on quantum mechanics. I now know more about PAM Dirac, who was a far better man than the average. I enjoy football but I am not addicted to it. What will you do to get your fix of football? Lie cheat murder.

No country is perfect, but there are standards we should live by. The recent European club Super League was supposedly inevitable. Is there any line that you will not cross.

Grey, think we've got our wires crossed here mate

I never accused of any such thing at all?

my point is huge sporting events are moving to Saudi, its where a lot of big bucks are. the decisions to move events there are not for anything other than sport and money.

again, the link you make with Hitler is wrong

This.

If Saudi are head choppers then NATO are body rippers.

Is the cult that inhabits this board even more reactionary than the readers of the Daily Mail? No wonder that Simon Jordan has a job. He is defending the owner of Sheffield Wednesday. The 49s may not be perfect, but compared to some club owners they are enlightened. The Rhubarb King should wake up and smell the coffee.

Am I missing something here?..

"Leeds City was forcibly shut down for participating in an unofficial competition that would have given ordinary fans some pleasure before they went into the trenches. Footballers at that time were on relatively poor wages."

I've thought all my time,(a long time!)as a Leeds fan City were kicked out of the league for miss use of money, didn't know it was for participating in an unofficial competition that would have given ordinary fans some pleasure before they went into the trenches!..

Not unless you mean they were kicked out for getting caught doing what everybody else was doing!..

As for FIFA, they're only doing what the English Premier league are doing but with the rest of football, pulling as much crap as it can from the man that has very little to say!..

So, that means it doesn't really matter what anybody wants to say, unless any of us can or wants to pay as much as others can!..

The story goes that Arsenal was involved, but they were the FAs' darlings. Port Vale lobbied to have Leeds City booted out so that they could replace them. The players were sold like slaves at the block having no choice where they went to. The FA kept the money.

Dirac was Asperger when people were allowed to describe themselves as such before the politically correct lot got involved.

Shouldn't we be asking why are the Saudi's the only candidates left standing with the Australians stepping aside? Is it the case that very few nations can afford to host the games?

posted on 1/11/23

Multiple destinations are the sensible solution, but who believes FIFA can be sensible? It is the people's game, but the elites have taken over the game and messed it up. It would be nice if the UK and Eire had a joint bid, the place where modern football was born. Football may have started in England, but Scotland, Wales and the whole of Ireland had a part to play in its birth.
