The Gun Sight Is On Peter Lawell

To the fans he is seen to be letting the club down, but to the major shareholders, Lawell is fantastic at his job.

Probabbly one of the most sought after in the game, if he ever leaves Celtic he wont be short of offers.

Until we find out how many of the signings over the last year have actually been Lenny's then it's hard to judge at this point. My main fear is that that the board have made the bulk of the signings and expected the manager to make a team out of them. Still, even if it that is the case, then it's still no excuse for some of the bad performances and results. If Lenny and the club part ways in the next few months then it might get nasty.

It was always a gamble by the board to appoint Lennon as manager when it was obvious they would be the villains if it all went pear shaped. When it comes to Lawwell, I'm sure Fergus McCann would give him his seal of approval, and god help any Celtic fan who utters a bad word about Fergus nowadays.

For me...every manager since Wgs, has been trying to clear up the mess he left.A team that dropped 20 points in the space of 4 months, with Rangers and their management under severe pressure from their fans.

The Boards fault was their faith in Strachan

jessy so 3 titles in a row, first since 1971 and last 16 twice was that a fluke? or was he making his mess whilst acheiving success, i wonder why he dropped the 20 points, did he do it on purpose or was it just because of his non celticmindedness

look at MON's legacy, 30m in debt, bobo on a 5 year 30k a week deal, aging players with no sell on value.

Dos I wouldn't say that was o'neills legacy, I would say it was his biggest failures in the job. He also had us winning trophies and outplaying the rest.

Walter smith is a legend a rangers but he made plenty of mistakes, had what you call ageing players and gave contracts to some right duds aswell.

Strachan was successful and done well for us. The board have actually backed our managers relatively well but they have brought significant cash in on players leaving aswell.

++++++

Mon had to deal with Rangers' big spending and EBT schemes sprouting to attract players...as for Bobo Balde, did you watch Gary Caldwell and McManus

Strachan won his first title with most of Mon's players and came nowhere near to attaining the points or goals totals O'Neill achieved against a much weaker Rangers side.

And as for the CL, Wgs had the luck O'Neill hadn't...a WC goalkeeper and qualifying have won all home games

Mon put Rangers in their place

big eck wasnt driven out by fans, it was murray, we dont use terms like rangersminded, your making that up

celticminded, forums books and web site mate

WGS wasn't driven out by Celtic fans neither, but you seem to think if you persist with a lie then it makes it true. Do you think that when Tommy Burns said he wanted more 'Celtic minded' players it was for bigoted reasons?

You may not use terms like Rangers minded, but when PLG arrived, you couldn't read an article in the Scottish press about his religion and the fact his brother was a priest. When Barry, Kris, Allan and the rest of the gang conspired to get rid of him then it was never mentioned again.

Given the way the team snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and collapsed during the second half of the season then it's understandable that many fans agreed with WGS in that he had taken us as far as he could. Most Celtic fans enjoyed and appreciated WGS (myself included), but he did sign some absolute duds and the standard of football was shocking at times. More Rangers fans had an issue with the fact that he (apparently) didn't come from an Irish or RC background than Celtic fans did.
