Playing with half a team missing

I can almost accept the half a team thing in Europe but not against St Johnstone. With the players and funds available to Celtic there is no excuse for a game and a half v St Johnstone like we had recently.

Europe I do kind of agree, however last season we went the firts half of the CL group minus CCV and a couple of others, this year we are missing players. The issue there is that the back up players are good enough for domestic (just) but no where near the calibre of who is out.

Since Hatate got injured I don't think Rodgers has started the same CM 2 games in a row - it has rotated between Holm, Bernardo and Turnbull. Since Maeda got injured we have played Yang and Forrest with MJ off the bench and a fleeting Tillio performance - Abada may be frustrating at times but he is a cut above what we have been rotating round there.

The loss of Jota is massive
The loss of Starfelt was sorted by 2 signings of CB for a few million each. Both crocked and one of them was torrid when he played.

lets stop pretending we would be free flowing attacking football if he had players back.

he had a 4.5 million quite midfielder he hand picked last time along with a 9 million pound striker and he still passed the ball around the back 4.

the cautiousness is his input on the team, he's ruining mcgregor.

the only time i've seen mcgregor perform this season is when we have been behind in the league, in which case i feel he does his best.

our manager is a boring basturd, he was boring last time, he's boring this time, and it's ridiculous to me that people can't see this.

banging out about quality lacking in europe then struggling to put in decent performances in the league when the quality he has far outweighs the rest.

he's a walking contradiction.

This is it. Would you trust him with an unlimited budget?

Or do you think it's likely he'd just end up shackling more expensive players?

i've never seen a celtic striker want or move for the ball as much as kyogo, it's unacceptable to me that he spend majority of the game making pointless runs while we pass the ball sideways.

Key question: Who would you appoint as Celtic manager instead of BR?

posted on 4/12/23

i genuinely hate those questions.

i didn't know who ange postecoglou was, never heard of him and he was outstanding for us.

what i do know is that rodgers was here before and 2 out of the 3 seasons we had him were the most boring football i've seen out of a celtic team.

he was winning then, if i was a rangers fan right now i'd be fuming that we are ahead of them.

we knew what kind of football he would play, we knew how he performed with us in europe, and still we thought he was a great choice.

i said last season i could stomach being schite in europe with ange because i genuinely enjoyed watching us every week in the league.

Ange came in with nothing and made us a joy to watch, made ralston look good, made taylor look good.

it's a brass neck that rodgers is now turning around and saying he needs big players to get that outcome, and tbh i doubt he could get us playing that way even if he had them.

So you cannot answer the question. I get that. BR’s football has been boring for the most part and I agree. It was even worse in WGS’s final season and pretty poor in RD’s 2nd season. Personally I couldn’t give a fook if our manager is boring if the football is good and we win trophies. While I’m not a big BR fan, I think we can only judge his performance at the end of the season.

Just my views

the football isn't good, and for me that's the most important thing.

of course i can't answer the question how many times do fans appoint managers, it's not my job.

i don't think they looked very far, same as i don't think they look far in the youth setup.

amazing how the chairmans son was the best man for the job.

amazing how the 2 most competent coaches for the youth setup just happened to be 2 players that previously played for us. How lucky is that?

Interesting you mentuioned Strachan. That was dull football. Dull yet effective and got us into the latter stages of the CL.

However from memory the crowds started to dwindle then. People blamed the crowds on Deila etc but the truth was they started to fall under Strachan because the product on the park wasn't great.

I doubt that would happen now with the huge season ticket waiting list but you can even see this season if there is a choice between a cold Wednesday night v Hibs or watch it at home there are some taking the latter option. That rarely happened under Ange as we enjoyed watching us go at it for 90 minutes.

Yes I agree. Let’s see how the season pans out. It can only get better than the tripe we have been served up so far.

i found strachans teams dull, but lets be clear on something his teams lacked quality and he done a job.

this is the team that he took to play milan in the last 16

Boruc,
Telfer,
McManus,
O'Dea,
Naylor,
Nakamura
Lennon
Sno
McGeady Jarosik
JVOH

Subs Brown, Wilson, Kennedy, Riordan, Graveson, Miller, Beattie

that team got us through the groups.

before anyone says football is different now, that milan team had dida, maldini, gattuso, pirlo, seedorf, kaka and inzaghi in it

And then has to fight two CBs in the air for the cross, or drop off for a cutback with two or three players on him

That Kaka goal, as right as it was to concede it so late in the tie.. Was sheer class.

We need to play Calmac as an AM. With MOR and Iwata/Holm as DM. He's wasted as a DM.

I think they will give him the second half of the season. The weeks they have struggled have all came after a midweek European game. They don't have the strength in depth to manage that consistent workload. After December they have no European football and I expect they will climb the table and will push for thrid in the table by the end

Yes I agree. We need a DM in the mould of Broonie to sit in front of our defence and allow CalMac to push forward.

I'd rather have someone capable of passing the ball further than 5 yard and stay in the park.

don't know about Holm, looks like he moves well sometimes but overall i think quite unconvincing, still young though.

the difference mcgregor made when he pushed forward yesterday, the press, thats what we need from him so needs away from that cdm role imo.
