ETH realistic replacement

Couldn't care less about Alonso having played for Liverpool personally. If he's a top manager in the making then he'd be as good a candidate as any.

But until Ratcliffe finally gets control of footballing operations and we [potentially] see some competence in that department, any managerial appointment we make is going to be seriously compromised.

Ok so let me change my question, if Ratcliffe take over this week and immediately fire ETH, who would you want to be new manager?

No one can come in and make united better just like that. The rot is too deep. It's in the dressing room and the people pulling the strings.
Even fergie would need 2-3 years I think.
What's actually impressive is that managers have managed to take advantage of when other big teams have gone off the boil and got in the cl. It really just painted over the cracks in the wall but, using last season as an example, it's actually super impressive TH got united even in the CL.
It's mad how such a big club can be run so badly. Chelsea is one thing but united are way bigger.
People laughed when I said it as a rival fan but sir Jim could actually be the saviour if he runs the club as a half decent business.

There is zero chance Alonso would ever go anywhere near us even ignoring his Liverpool links. He also has 2 other clubs he’s played for that would probably take him that I’m sure he’ll be managing very soon.

Could you's lure simeone away from atletico? He might not play the type of football you want, the utd way as neville calls it, but surely now that has to take a back seat.

Simeone is exactly the type of guy that would come in and rip that squad apart in the ruthless way thats been needed for a few years now. He would surely command the respect of those in there as well.

Doesn't matter who we get they won't succeed, the whole club is set up to fail its football manager.

Under the current set up that's absolutely certain, you're right.

I think most grown ups though are going off the premise that we will be seeing major structural changes very soon hence the conversation.

Your ETH in agenda is getting tiresome though. He won't survive much longer when the changes do come and then what will you do? Pretend you wanted him gone really no doubt. 😂

What are you expecting if alonso or another would take over? He comes in and immediately has us play like prime barca? We’d need new personel, can’t expect the likes of limited footballers like awb to suddenly turn into dani Alvarez.

Well basically be resetting the cycle, to over again.

He is though, in terms of attacking ability and ball playing. He’s got better, but the raw material isn’t there as an attacking fullback. He’s ok when on form at it. He’s a very good tackler and defender for the most part, but a pretty limited attacking fullback.

He's not that good a defender though.
If you actually watch him play, he's a very very average player.

I'll give him this though. At 1 on 1 defending there is nobody better in the world. There is very few players that can get past him.

In terms of other attributes though, his awareness levels aren't great. He can't head the ball. His passing is weak. His positioning, defensively and offensively is poor.

Early this season I was saying Emery, but now that is impossible until at least the summer. We'd have to hope Villa doesn't finish in the top 4, if they do h3 won't leave. H3 was unlucky with timing at Arsenal. Had he had the support Arteta has, he would have won the league.

Little bit of drunk optimism before I go to bed......

Jean Claude Blanc and whoever they choose to be DOF couldn't wish for a lower bar to be coming into. The people they would be replacing I wouldn't have running a pub let alone a multi billion pound business.

They need to sack this manager and all his coaching staff and get rid of the entire recruitment team too and start again. Break the whole thing down and revisit properly. Don't try to rebuild with only half the blueprints like we have done the last decade.
