Frank, just give your opinion without the personal insults please. When a poster resorts to insults it undermines the value of their opinion so your opinion value rating is currently zero!

These FA cup games without VAR have gone without the normal contreversy that PL games do with VAR.

Without VAR people in the stadium accept decisions because its made by humans in real time and the game continues. So we move on with the action But with assistance by tecnology the game stops and TV veiwers have this massive debate about is it or isnt it with hundreds of replays. Whilst the game recontinues and then at half time and end of game annalysis.

Just get back to pre VAR days and let refs and linos get on with being refs and linos.

Worse things happen at sea than a dodgy offside call being made by a ref watching it on a camera replay.

and without VAR fans talk aboiut how inept the ref is and not fit for purpose, the refs get death threats and their personal life and family get targeted due to making a understandable mistake or missing something or making the wrong decision basing it on a spur of the moment decision with no review.

Now where are my IDIOTS at that want to scrap VAR entirely? Let's get back on track. Here is a recap on your proposals:

1. Give wrong decisions when everyone can see what the right decision is immediately

2. Give goals that should clearly be disallowed

3. Advocate for headbutts as long as the ref's back is turned

It would certainly make it more entertaining.

That works for football that isn't televised. It is almost a different sport to football the TV show where everyone can see everything from every angle (apart from the ref). When fans watching a lower level match don't have access to all of the information that TV show football fans have access to then the errors often go unnoticed unless you are in a part of the stadium where you can see straight down the lineman's view or goal line etc.

That is a preferable way of enjoying real life football, indeed, but football at the highest level has moved on from that. Big errors can't simply be ignored when everyone can see it and it would be so easy to correct with assistance to the ref.

Because of VAR and TV. Before VAR they didnt get death threats and threats to their families and personal lives.

oh but yes they did.... plenty of refs throughout the world have had death threats prior to VAR and missing big decisions.

The problem as I see it is that the VAR officials appear to be looking for reasons to diss allow the goal.

VAR should be for offsides and handball only. And the laws for those offences need to be re written so that it is clearly defined.

Fouls and penalties should be onfield referee and linesman decisions only.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Penalties should definitely be VAR. Only found should be left out.

Michael Oliver, Mike Dean, Clattenberg all received death threats and their families and personal lives were brought into the picture prior to VAR. thats just the noticeable and ones ones I remember in the english game, in other countries it can be far worse.

now VAR gets the stick rather than the ref.

I dont think the ref comisssions want it to be that black and white.... if they do that you can then say its was a wrong call no ifs no buts. they prefer the "interpretation" stuff as it always gives them an out IMO.

Hasn't cleared up errors and all it's done is take the joy out of scoring goals.

I'm all for goal line tech coming in and the automated offside stuff too. Anything that's left up to a human being scrap it. Let the ref make the call.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bang on the money.

I'd bin it personally but its here to stay.

Everyone was complaining. Now they want VAR gone so we can go back to that?

FA cup weekend was a joy ( Arsenal result aside ) We got the beautiful game back! Very entertaining games over the weekend.

No one would miss VAR if it was ditched, time to get rid for good.

VAR was never meant to clear errors, only to refine decision making. Some of you are just thicker than two short planks.

Nobody bothers when VAR gets things right and averts a disaster, which is 95% of the time. The 5% they get wrong, which was always going to be the case and they want VAR gone.

Only problem with VAR is the time it takes to make decisions, which will improve with time. As for the decisions, it has improved that and will also improve in future.

The availability of VAR is a very different debate to the current implementation of it. The best example in relatively recent times is the Henry v Ireland goal.

Those who say VAR should be scrapped would argue that France fans in the stadium would be denied their opportunity to celebrate a goal as it goes in. That if the officials didn't see it then it should be ignored. Stopping the game to review it would take a couple of minutes and that would have to be added on at the end.

Those in favour of having the availability of VAR would argue that it should be disallowed because it was handball. It was cheating. The whole world could see it. It would take a second just to tell the ref to disallow it.

Overall having VAR available is far more beneficial than not having it at all, for the big decisions as outlined above. I would like to hear an argument to the contrary though.

The arguments I am seeing seem to centre on the less important decisions where it is taking too long etc or the subjective close calls and such. These are not enough to completely scrap VAR due to the benefits of having it available for things that are life changing in the football context.

Negatives of VAR
- Takes far too long to come to a decision, which is too often incorrect anyway
- Ruins the joy of celebrating a goal by having the VAR check after pretty much every one
- Most decisions still subject to the same level of human interpretation as the on field referee
- Always looking for reasons to rule out goals (i.e a fingernail offside) so not exactly in the spirit of the the game
- Not correct and causes a big controversy at least every game week

Now if we can fix all those problems, I’m keen on keeping it but it causes more problems than it solves for me.

Can you please stop calling people insane? We are trying to have a grown up argument here and using terms like that devalues your viewpoint.

For all the faults of VAR I've never really understood the whole "ruins the goal cause because you can't celebrate" one.

Unless you notice a potential foul or offside in the build up, does anyone here really not celebrate a goal in case it gets ruled out?

I don’t in the same way as I used to.

In a stadium you don’t get the replays and analysis you get on TV, just a blue screen telling you VAR are looking at it, sometimes a minute after the ball has gone in the net
