Jim Ratcliffe on the case for state funding of a rebuilt Old Trafford: ‘
The people in the north pay their taxes like the people in the south pay their taxes, but where’s the national stadium for football? It’s in the south.
‘Where’s the national stadium for rugby? It’s in the south. Where’s the national stadium for tennis? It’s in the south. Where’s the national concert stadium? It’s the O2, it’s in the south. Where’s the Olympic Village? It’s in the south.
‘All of this talk about levelling up and the Northern Powerhouse. Where is the stadium in the north? How many Champions Leagues has the north-west won and how many Champions Leagues has London won?
‘The answer to that is the north-west has won 10 – Liverpool have won more than us – and London has won two. Where do you have to go if you get to the semi-final of the FA Cup and you’re a northern club? You have to schlepp down to London, don’t you?
‘So what happened to HS2, which was going to be a substantial amount of investment in the north, what happened to that? They cancelled that. And where are they going to spend that? They’re going to spend it on the rail network in London.
‘People in the north pay their taxes and there is an argument you could think about a more ambitious project in the north which would be fitting for England, for the Champions League final or the FA Cup final and acted as a catalyst to regenerate southern Manchester.’
Wow, the biggest tax dodger in this country is wanting the state to pay for a brand new stadium. How ironic.

No idea why City are extending the stadium again. Struggling to sell out home games all the time right now despite advertising they are sold out. 😂

bottom tiers of the ground.
Once the punishment is handed out and Pep walks away all these southern plastics will suddenly remember they were Chelsea/Arsenal fans afterall.

I think one of the main issues fans have is that Old Trafford has so much history so we would be losing a lot. I saw above that there was a Spurs fan talking about the redevelopment but this is so much different to the Spurs stadium redevelopment.
United have won countless trophies whilst at our current ground and when we go there we remember all of these great times. It wouldn't be long before we created new winning memories at our new ground obviously but the Spurs comparison is not valid.
Whilst Spurs were at their former stadium since it was completed in 1998, they only won the Carling Cup and that was essentially cos none of the big clubs wanted to win it, so what memories did that ground really hold for them? Each time the fans entered the stadium what did they remember? "Oh I remember that draw that got us mid table". Hardly worth keeping, so it was very easy just to knock down that stadium with its zero memories or success that it held for the club.
The new stadium, again, they have won nothing so they aren't creating any memories.
It is therefore very difficult to compare knocking down a world class stadium full of historic success like Old Trafford and replacing it with another world class stadium full of future success, to a run down White Hart Lane where there were no memories, to replacing it with a soulless modern stadium that holds no current or future glory or joy for the Spurs fans.
It is VERY different.

Anyone who thinks going to Old Trafford is an amazing experience either haven't been for 20 years, have never been at all or have been a guest in corporate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As a season ticket holder it always seems amazing to me with 73.000 people in it, a real historic stadium not a freebee council house.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Same, I love it. I totally agree it looks tired and need redevelopment, a better “experience”, but I’d rather do that than build a new stadium.
Steeped in history and we’ve seen the likes of Barca and Madrid going down that route.
Hate to think what all of this will do to our ticket prices too.
I know it should be better and a club like ours should have the best facilities etc, but once I’m in my seat I really don’t give a shiyte about anything, even when I’m taking a p*ss it doesn’t bother me that the bogs are a fckin state. Would be nice if the seats were a bit more spaced out and had more leg room, but my ST is on an aisle so that doesn’t bother me that much either

"The good news is we're going to give the money to a football club located hundreds of miles away, owned by an absentee American family and a tax dodging Billionaire, which likes to boast about its £700m+ annual turnover".

Much better to play in a council owned stadium and be owned by a Middle Eastern Prince who has attended two football games in 14 years eh? Even missed the clubs first ever CL final in Portugal.
😂😂😂

Don't concern yourself about us, the first crane went up on Monday for the North Stand redevelopment.
Should be ready in plenty of time for the Euros.

Council house.
Don't own your own ground. Had to get a Prince to pay for some success.
Is there anything you lot do for yourselves Boris?

Champions of the World, your outdated jibes are meaningless.
Do you think the Megastore will be selling MUFC begging bowls on Saturday?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You had to cheat Boris. It doesn't really compare to other clubs achievement.
When you have a middle Eastern Prince and still have to cheat to win you know you're a small time club. That's all you will ever be in the eyes of millions.

National stadium in the north?
He's already targeting to get help from the tax payer for a new stadium for United to play in when not being used for internationals, which will be most of the time as most international would still go to London anyway. Not so fast.

Dimmerson,
To commemerate the refurbishment of Old Trafford will you be having your living room redecorated and buying a new sofa to celebrate the occasion?

No idea why City are extending the stadium again. Struggling to sell out home games all the time right now despite advertising they are sold out. 😂
Last night there were lots of empty seats along the
bottom tiers of the ground.

What about Arsenal's current stadium? Sure they won their last PL at Highbury but no one associates the Emirates stadium with failure to win anything of note since it's opening. Everyone associates their teams with that.
