It's an overcorrection from the time Microsoft's chatbot went full on racist. I'd imagine the shareholders are nervy that an AI could go full on Hitler. It's part of an even larger issue of AI alignment mechanisms. But forcing diversity weightings at expense of accuracy seems like a counter productive policy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We don't know if they forced diversity weightings at all, leave alone at the expense of accuracy.

I didn't see black or brown people trying to claim big tech is against them when AI has facked them up in the past.

I didn't see people trying to claim big tech is forcing whiteness weightings when AI has previously gone racist.

AI has been weird with people of colour for a while, the moment it messes up a historical dude or situation involving a white person, then the culture war bullsheet debate immediately pops up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you forgetting when you typed into Google ‘white man steals car’ Google suggested did you mean ‘black man steals car’?

There was quite rightly an uproar about that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And rightfully so as that's not exactly the same as some historically inaccurate images. Or is it the same in your opinion?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Daft question, but couldn’t things like that just be down to ‘rogue’ employees?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's very possible, and could also be down to errors or just an early version of a system that needs work and improvement. Not everything is a conspiracy to force diversity on white people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m sure it was an early algorithm issue tbh

Does it qualify as manipulation?

I mean, if people keep searching "black man steals car", then a search for "white man steals car" might have that suggestion because the suggestions are based on trends, no?

Not everything is racism either. Some glitches cannot be anticipated and can only be fixed when they pop up.

Kids are getting all sorts rammed down their throats, and I’m not sure if it’s schools or social media. I suspect the latter.

I’ll be speaking to my 16 year old daughter and say something like spokesman, and she’ll ‘correct’ me and say spokesperson. My answer is no, it’s a man saying it so it’s spokesman. I explain that if there is no reference to who’s being quoted then spokesperson is the correct term. But they just won’t have it because they’ve had the equality stuff rammed down their throats, but seemingly without being taught about context.

I find it infuriating…..

Yeah but mate - black and white are spelled completely differently, it’s not a typo. I agree it was clearly just an algorithm issue based on searches but it was a fking doozy

Probably that. Type one word into Google and it’ll bring up suggestions based on what is top of the charts at that time. Very uncontroversial.

Be great if we could get everyone in the world to keep googling ‘Donald Duck’. Imagine how much that would wind Trump up!

The Trump religion cannot be overcome though.

Trust me, if you got caught in one of those loops with my daughter, you would find it infuriating!

Daughters are infuriating. If it wasn't this it'd be something else. There's no escaping the infuriation.

ChatGPT is also racist

https://youtu.be/thG2rbClcvE?si=oligmnLrrla1kzKi

The people behind them will use AI to further their agenda.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That’s a disgrace also.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This has either been faked or fixed by chatgbt because that doesn't work when I type it in. It says the same for both sides.
