I think people need to be careful with the Alonso hype. For example if ETH had never taken the Utd job and had stayed with Ajax I'd imagine he'd be one of the front runners to replace Klopp right now. His stock has obviously fallen a lot since taking the job.

Breaking news, Bayern have opened talks with Alonso and Alonso is keen. Why does ja keep triggering things in this story?
I think he’ll go to Bayern and I think it’s the right move for him.
Amorim seems like our other option.

Failed the interview and you ended up with Nuno? Im not Erik's biggest fan right now but that says a lot more about Spurs tbh.
Wasn't it his lack of charisma that was the rumoured issue with Spurs? I can definitely see that. He's very dull to listen to.

Far as I can remember there was a few things that got leaked but poor English and lack of charisma, yes. Tbh having poor English as an apparently successful Dutchman is pretty unusual.
In hindsight he would've likely been better than Nuno and Conte but my point was more that he'd not be a good fit for Liverpool. Ange if he were still at Celtic would be a better fit IMO
Alonso may think Klopp is too hard an act to follow and will think he'll have a chance after the next man.
They're big shoes to fill whoever takes over from Klopp.
Taking over from Klopp is a strange one, rarely do managers leave rather than get pushed. Personally I think it would be a great move for Alonso, just kinda feels destined however it's risky. While what he's done so far this season has been brilliant, a massive fail at Liverpool would undo the rep he's built so far.
With Bayern he'd be walking into a club who should be walking the league and weakening the side who are ahead of them by leaving. It's a bit of a free hit and he'll just be able to take another top job after winning several titles at Bayern and being known as a guy who can do it at a big club.

Have to agree Bayern is the easier route. Chances of failing there are not like other big clubs. Even staying at Leverkusen is a bit risky as repeating the feat might not be easy.
No chance, firstly it's a mess of a club and until structure is in place to give any manager a chance of succeeding it would be foolish to take the job imo. He has far better options in Liverpool and Bayern, 2 clubs he knows well and generally seems to be someone who will make a sensible choice.
Secondly the rivalry between United and Liverpool and his obvious love of Liverpool would stop any move. Maybe in other countries it's more common to see players/managers move to multiple rival clubs (especially in Italy) but it's far less of a thing here especially when Alonso is young and has his pick of clubs and United aren't an attractive club right now.
I'd say the Liverpool job is a better option for Alonso than Bayern. Yes Bayern are the powerhouse of Germany and 9 times out of 10 will win the league but the pressures to succeed are instant and they are a club who currently need a bit of work, just look at Nagelsmann. He was trying to make change and generally doing ok but it wasn't good enough and now that decision looks very stupid but the club will still make these harsh decisions and Alsono won't be given any allowances. Replacing Klopp is huge but they are also pretty realistic in their goals and know City are no1. He'll have more time to get his ideas across and has a better assembled squad imo.
Also with Bayern he played a long side a lot of the squad that need replacing and I can see that causing friction. These are huge characters who have won the lot and don't expect to be replaced but it needs to be done.
Alonso is in a rare position where he can decide where (assuming he leaves Leverkusen) he wants to go.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both Liverpool and Bayern, and ultimately it will be a personal decision as to where he feels he's at and ready to go for.
Alonso could be one of 'the next great managers' - he's in the right age group and up and coming, but we won't really know until he does move on. And of course if it turns out well for him, we will all be saying how it was so obvious after Leverkusen etc..................
but that's how we judge other managers, like ETH, Teuchel, Poch, etc etc, and most turn out to be good managers but not the very best.
If he has 'got it', it almost won't matter which club he chooses as he will be successful, but most managers probably want to test themselves in the EPL at some point in their career
Not all talented managers that 'have it' will be successful, especially if they move to the PL and compete with Pep's City. Klopp will have been at Liverpool for 9 seasons when he leaves and possibly end up with 1 PL and 1 CL which might not seem like much in terms of success but he will still rightly go down as one of Liverpool's greatest managers.
I think if he 'has it', and he went to Liverpool, allowing for reasonable time for him and Liverpool to get use to each other, he would ultimately have a degree of success - who knows how long Pep will stay, but I don't think it will be for too many years more.
I personally view Klopp as being a success, given the circumstances and the fact he is up against Pep at city - for me it is similar to Wenger at Arsenal v SAF at Utd.
It's easy for us to look at things 'very logically' as to what managers should do next jobwise, but in reality who knows what will happen in the future and when the next big opportunity will come up. Alonso may not go to Liverpool, and whoever does go there turns out to do a great job.
That is why Utd, with all their issues, will still be attractive to a lot of managers. To be the one that could turn it around, you would still have money to spend, and it will always be a big name club. Who knows when such a chance would come up again. All managers have egos, so whilst we all know what a nightmare managing Utd is right now, it still represents a great opportunity and challenge for managers
Yeah United will be attractive to some good managers largely because any good manager will believe in their ability but if they look at it properly they will see the job isn’t just about their ability though and how the club is currently set up will hugely hinder any managers chance for success.
I can imagine Alonso is a manager who will wanna test himself at a few jobs so if he did take the Liverpool job I’m not sure he’d be there for many years. The modern game is too demanding and managers need to move on and take breaks for themselves. Will be interesting to see where Pep goes, he’s kind of at the perfect club with their wealth and league they’re in. Can’t see him going to Italy or any other European league. He said he’d like an international job but it kind of goes against his strengths as a manager. Maybe he’d be excited about a job at a big South American club like Boca (not sure what their finances are like compared to other SA sides).
"Klopp will have been at Liverpool for 9 seasons when he leaves and possibly end up with 1 PL and 1 CL which might not seem like much in terms of success but he will still rightly go down as one of Liverpool's greatest managers."
I can understand not including the super and club world cups but do domestic trophies not count anymore?
Do you care about those that much, I know I never did when we won’t them.
I’m saying Klopp is a brilliant manager and done an incredible job at Liverpool. But it’ll be his PL and CL titles that he’ll be remembered for, not the others. The point was about managers that have it and being successful and sadly domestic cups mean very little these days.
Rather wait a few seasons, currently Alonso is flavour of the month, rightly so, but we've seen so many managers who excel over a short period, surrounded by hyperbole then to disappear when things go pear shaped at a top club!

Yeah the season we played literally every game available, getting to 3 finals winnimg two trophies and taking the PL to the last day, yeah no one cared.
Klopp and the players seem to care enough to go all out to win them so its only fair us fans give a shiite. I also think it looks a little disingenuous saying he only won 1 PL & CL in 9 years.

Not really, Pep will be remembered for his PL and CL titles, same with Ferguson. I also wasn't even trying to make that sound like it wasn't much, taking into account who he was up against which is why I stated he will go down as one of Liverpool's greatest managers.
EtH won us the League Cup last season and means very little in the grand scheme of things, as do LvG's FA Cup and Jose's League Cup and EL. These are not the trophies the elite managers are remembered for.
You seem to be getting upset when I'm not even claiming Klopp and his acheivements aren't good, they are. I'm simply saying elite managers will be remembered for the big titles they won, not the smaller ones or the ones they nearly won.
