Last season we ended up with 41 points. Yesterday moved us to 42 with 8 games still to play. Great achievement with a wafer thin squad and more than our fair share of injuries
Actually, in terms of days lost through injury we don't even rank in the top 10 for the Premier League and don't even have a high number of player out compared to other clubs at the moment.
We have 5 players out if we include Cunha. Clubs that have more are; Brentford 7, Bournemouth 6, Chelsea 11, Crystal Palace 8, Liverpool 9, Luton Town 13, Man United 8, Newcastle 8, Forest 6 and Sheff United 9. Plenty of clubs also have 5 out.
I think we have been unfortunate that all our injuries hit in one position at the same time, but it is more that we have a small squad that has increased the impact. I don't think we have had more than our fair share of injuries. If anything, we have had less injuries overall.
To be fair when we signed Ait-Nouri he had been playing in a more advanced forward role most of his career that far, I seem to recall that he was signed with a view to him playing wing back but that his attributes were more as an attacking player.

Ha, yes but think how many more points you'd have if you hadn't so negative and down on us this season etc...

You are not being realistic in the slightest Boston. We are having an excellent season and are still getting results despite having 4 forwards out injured. Even in the current form table over the last 6 matches we are 9th

Just read about Leicester's losses, must admit I'd had some sympathy for then a while back as they had resisted Rodger's calls to invest in the squad last season in an attempt to stay within the PSR threshold but seems they did no where near enough and have racked up £215m total loses over the last three years. Much of the 90m from the last period is due to Rodger's pay off, wages ( highest outside the"big" 6) lack of European football and lower PL merit payments due to finishing 18th.
This is very telling, further evidence if needed that its virtually impossible for a club of Leicester's (or wolves for that matter) size to permanently break the status quo at the top of the league. It kinda justifies the position that we took to stay in the rules despite the frustrations of many supporters. And also raises the question whether villa can continue to progress without selling players.
Certainly Leicester will have to offload anyone they can of any value to offset losses at the end of this season regardless of which division they're in. If they don't go up they're going to be right in the sh!t for sure. They went for it and just fell short but the fans had a league title and cup win to celebrate, wonder if they feel it was worth it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The reality is that the 5/6 clubs that own the league are the only ones that are immune from being in trouble financially.
The rules make that an obvious fact, the rest of the teams scramble about trying to improve but in reality are unable to do so.
Man City have been getting away with things where other clubs would have already been penalised, and unless they receive a severe punishment soon, we may as well give in.
We will probably lose 4/5 players this summer to the "big clubs" and we will be starting over,
That's the way the cookie crumbles.
Absolutely and evidently ridiculous to state we have had "more than our fair share of injuries".
The problems lie squarely at the door of the club for having a wafer thin squad in the first place, in the second place letting our 2 back up strikers go out on loan, and finally failing to bring in the striker we needed in January.
The injuries to both Neto and Hwang (and our exit from the FA Cup) are a direct consequence of the players playing too much football and rushing back from injury.
Fosun out!!
Never changed my opinion over Ait Nouri. From the time we got promoted I said he was a great prospect but not as a Premier League full back with Wolves. He is a wing back with the potential to play even further forward. GON playing 343 is as much about getting the best out of him and Semedo as it is playing three centre backs.
Do agree with you Boston about the sustainability rules. They are just contributing to giving the top clubs a bigger advantage over the clubs aspiring to reach European positions. The likes of Wolves, Everton and Leicester are being penalised for having the audacity to try to compete in the top half of the Premier League and the rules are forcing all teams like that to ultimately have the biggest penalty, relegation, as happened with Leicester

Also weird to have had that opinion since we were promoted, when we didn't sign RAN until 2 years after promotion. He hadn't even made his professional debut when we won promotion.

Gusty winds forecast for the visit of West Ham on Saturday.
I think we'll see an improved performance with more energy and faster in transition at Molineux.
Wolves 2 West Ham 0
GON has confirmed that Dawson and Hwang will be fit to rejoin full training this week and might be available for the game against West Ham on Saturday, and if not then definitely for the week after
More from GON
"“I understand the financial restrictions in play at the football club at this moment, but it shows us that registering 19 senior players leaves you really, really short.
“Five injuries is not a huge amount."
""I was clear with them that we were overloading the players and I felt our injury record had a really good chance of getting worse during the second half of the season.
"On top of that, I also flagged how short we were in attacking positions and if we suffered even a couple of injuries to the top line if would make a huge difference to what we were able to produce."
I agree with most of that except the part where he says 5 isn’t a huge amount. It’s certainly a huge proportion. He says we were short on attacking players where of course we have recently had 4 out. But if we had 4 midfield players out eg Lemina, Gomes, Doyle and Traore I suspect we would have been short there. Or short in defence if Kilman, Dawson, Toti and Bueno had all been out.
Can’t imagine many clubs have needed to field more academy players in their matchday squad than we have.
If you have 7 out from a 25 man squad there’s still 18 left. Take 5 out of 19 that leaves only 14, so very weak on the bench.
"We have some unbelievable players but if you lose a couple, I'm trying to pick a starting XI from 12 fit senior outfield players.
"I would doubt there's another club in the other 91 in the country that are down that low.
""The point of all that, is that the group are out on their feet ....."
not a good sign for the manager criticising the owners strategy, usually a sign the manager is looking for an exit
Hope I am wrong
I expect to lose up to 5 players in the summer and if we don’t buy 7 replacements I can see GON getting upset and may be tempted by an offer.
Really hope he doesn’t go, we could be in real trouble.
Not pessimistic, just realistic.
All this bitching and moaning about these poor players earning 1,000's of quid a week to entertain the public. They are professional footballers playing on very good pitches.
Remember the old Division 1. 42 games in a season. Squads no bigger than the ones we have and playing on pitches that sometimes looked like a field of mud. Not earning anywhere near what they're paid today.
They turned out week after week, earning less than 100 quid a week, so please, let's not get bogged down with too much sympathy for the present day footballer.
