He's a pr-ck. I see Tory MP Elphicke defected to the Labour party yesterday, the MP who hassled Rashford over free school meals and voted for the fire and rehire initiatives, sounds perfect for this current version of Labour. And today it's come out that Starmer is being aided by the n-nce Mandelson.
I have way more respect for politicians who have utter conviction to their beliefs (even if i do not share them). As polarising as the likes of Corbyn and Thatcher were, at least they held strong ideological beliefs and stood by them, not seeking to be popularist, presenting more than just a scripted, on message, inoffensive façade.
The likes of Starmer and Sunak weak leaders, lacking conviction and any true vision.
He is extremely hard to like
This is basically Starmer and Sunak.

He's so vanilla. It's so uninspiring.
I can live with centrism being offered up... for a while, better than 14 years of creeping further right.
If they can get the NHS back on track a bit and clean up the rivers, that would be enough (low bar set).
I've given up on the idea of an actual progressive party getting in... The corporations and media just wont allow it. It'll only happen when things like climate change are too hard to ignore.
I doubt he's going to unleash a left wing utopia but I also think he's almost certainly going to improve things.
Renationalisation of rail and creating GB energy are two things that alone will help thousands of people.
“If they can get the NHS back on track a bit and clean up the rivers, that would be enough (low bar set).”
Can’t see him doing much there, isn’t he also for privatising the NHS? Also getting back ownership of stuff like water, energy and trains is going to take years, something no politician is going to commit to sadly. We’re gonna be swimming in literal sh-t for years to come I imagine.
Anything is better than this current bunch of shysters, we just need them out.
I'm hoping its just a ruse to get the plonkers who voted for Boris and Brexit on-side?

Agree, but people are selfish, and generally speaking they will serve themselves before the public they serve. That's why game theory usually assumes selfishness.

He's already committed to renationalising the trains and setting up a state owned clean energy company.
I wonder, would he be liked /accepted in Australia !

Agree Labour are more centrist under Starmer than they were. I wouldn't call the Tories anything near the centre. Their biggest threat in the GE is looking like being Reform.
Don’t think I’ve ever been so disillusioned with politics. Probably won’t even vote at the next GE.
Tamwolf
That would be brilliant if they can, I'll believe it when I see it. So still sh-t in the rivers and seas then?
If we want are country back, the only option is to vote reform. If all of us who won Brexit, vote for reform then we will win this as well and we will get are country back.
I get his stance on a lot of things, but accepting any of these Tory priiiiicks into the Labour party is ridiculous.

With all due respect, he drops pledges and u-turns commitments at the first sign of disapproval from the press. If he does go ahead with it then great because the country needs change but he'll say anything to get a positive story

She isn't standing in the next election, so won't really have any impact on Labour. She'll be out of politics by the end of the year.
The reason she was accepted was because her crossing the house is symbolic to the failures of the government. Their MPs are abandoning them in droves and it gives Starmer the chance to claim that even Tory MPs are seeing him as a more viable option.
It is typical of Labour supporters though to turn what should be a symbolic victory over a right wing government into a defeat. Most of the stuff I have read about this is people moaning about Starmer, rather than an MP defecting.
I actually think most Labour supporters would rather be out of power, rather than trying to influence a government in power.
Brexit, Boris, Truss, ffs give me boring beige so that we can get a f**king grip of ourselves.

Absolutely. idealists and absolutists that fail to understand they don't live in an echo chamber, they'd prefer continued Tory hari-kari so they can weep and moan rather than the chance to effect change.
