I wouldn't take that phrase in the article 'continue to build the side around him' literally or definitively. No smart sporting operation builds the whole strategy around one player.

As others have said, Bruno seems to be encouraged to play a free role and take a high risk / high reward approach. Is it impossible to imagine that he might rein that side of his game in a bit if we start to develop the squad and tactics that enable us to play more ball-dominant football? If anyone thinks Bruno is the main thing holding us back from playing that way, they'll have an unpleasant surprise if he leaves.

Next season is going to unpleasant regardless. We are going to need a rebuilding which his high risk/high reward style will define rightly or wrongly (and has defined from the day he joined us). I strongly doubt he can change to any manager.

A new manager, new players, new United is needed.

He's looked a bit more conservative playing for Portugal in a different system, as far as I've seen. And the reality is that there's only so much we can change in one summer. If there's a stupendous offer for him and we see an opportunity to reinvest, then sure, let's take it. There's also a scenario where we lose him and we're stuck with more mediocre players while lacking the means to significantly progress to a more-than-the-sum-of-our-parts team.

Part of Bruno’s problem is that he struggles to retain the ball by dribbling and using his body, so even if we need him to play more conservatively and not looking for the forward pass so much, he struggles when pressed. We need players more careful in possession, but ones that actually impact matches. If we are really content with Bruno staying for a few more years yet we need to make sure we can surround him with players that will take care of the ball and give him more passing options, so he doesn’t always have to choose the more difficult forward pass when pressed.

Tbf we did try to bring in some back up/competition in Mount and Donny before him. Both turned out to be pathetic.

I didn't know ol Donny was out on loan

Neither did Frankfurt fans.

If selling Bruno Fernandes is anywhere but right at the very bottom of the list of things to consider this summer, people have gone nuts.

He is our best player.
He is our most consistent performer.
He is our most committed player.
He is club captain.
He loses the ball a bit but he creates so so much.
He’s our penalty taker, and a damn good one.
He defends as well as attacks, he tracks back and covers every blade of grass.

You might want to build a new team for the future around younger players, but he’s integral to the rebuild over the next 3-4 years if he stays.

Give him what he wants, get him the right players to play with and we’ll improve.

Selling would be a huge mistake

Give him what he wants
--
Isn't that the mistake we have been making for 10 years?
He isn't good enough to be given what he wants.
Usually people get a promotion or a payrise after a stellar year... This was anything but stellar.

I don't disagree with your other points fyi.

He is a terrible captain. He just is.

He's dynamic and yes productive statistically, but he's the literal opposite of every top 10 attacking midfielder/creative hub. Low possession, poor ball movement (runs and link up).

If he's our best player, he becomes our upper limit. We can only become as good as he gives us.

We keep postponing the painful process we have needed to undergo since Fergie left. I always bring Chelsea up because they took it and watching their last few games they may have figured out some things from their painful reshuffle. Almost a completely new 11.

We are not going to Europe next year. We can sign a lot more players and sell a lot more too. I'm tired of every name we want to keep around. I think they are tired of us too. New owner, new players, new manager.

Tomatoes, he's perfect to play as a second striker in a 4-4-2. That's the way football should be played, in your view, isn't it?

Hmm... In my dreamworld. But for now, we get a new DOF and manger, they have a system and play it with a new set of players. If he has a 4-4-2 in their plans...
