Liverpool v Wolves Match Thread

They’ll certainly be far more interest taken in Klopp than anything Wolves do in this game. And GON will probably be fielding more questions about our opposition to VAR than the game.

Our season was really encouraging until we had a spate of injuries that our small squad was not built to cope with. Ironic that we weren’t willing to pay £5m in January to loan Broja but now we have slipped down the table and will lose over £10m in Premier League prize money as a consequence.

Nice to see Neto get some game time but I suspect we won’t. Be good to see Santi Bueno come back in so we can field three proper centre backs. A game with little at stake which will either lead to a mundane end of season game or an open one like Liverpool’s game at Villa this week. Their lack of ability to close games down, which saw them fade from the title race, might give us some breakaway chances so who knows.

Be happy with 2~2

Agreed. I can't see anything other than a home win.

If we can keep it tight and sit in, there will be opportunities to hit them on the break though. Who knows, this is just the sort of match we could shock the bookies.

Heart - Liverpool 0 Wolves 1

Head - Liverpool 3 Wolves 1

4-0
Our lot will be carrying their beach towels under their arms, so Puddle should see off Kloppy with a good win.
Hope I'm so wrong, but when did we last win the last game of the season ?

5 Stars to Goldie for his sterling work this season.

Yes, well done to Oldgold

I thought you would run out steam after the shock defeat to Coventry, but you've stuck at it admirably.

Sky sports doing a survey of fans regarding Wolves proposal to scrap VAR. 74% agree with the proposal

posted on 16/5/24

One thing for certain, you will definitely score at least one

I'm not so sure.

Bournemouth was the one that tested my stamina.

"BBC Sport understands Liverpool, plus three other unnamed clubs, are not in favour of scrapping VAR."

Well, who'd a thought eh? Wonder who the other three are 🤔

posted on 16/5/24

So if that's 4, they only need to find another 3 to fack it up.

posted on 17/5/24

Not a chance they scrap it now.

posted on 17/5/24

Can’t see var being scrapped but it’s great Wolves have prompted a proper debate about its future. And it’s sad that the fact 74% of fans are voting for it to be scrapped is not being considered as a factor. Shows how much the paying supporters are valued in the modern game

Olympiakos evidently have an option to buy Podence for €6m and intend activating that

Nobody gives a flying feck about the fans in the ground.

Sad, but true.

More interesting re the Sky survey, their 74% in favour of scrapping VAR is, presumably, mostly TV fans.

My guess is that if a large survey of match attendees was taken the figure would be nearer to 90%, and if only season ticket holders probably even more than that.

If that was the case the conclusion we would have to come to would be that the interests of the boards of 14 clubs, mostly the richer clubs, is more important than the interests of about 400,000 football fans. The people whose money keeps the game going.

Anyone surprised at that.

That's the point though isn't it? The half million or so fans in the grounds are irrelevant.

It's the TV audience that pays the big bucks.

posted on 17/5/24

Agree, but judging from the Sky survey the TV audience also predominantly want rid.

Just reading Klopp's comments ahead of our game. Interesting that, although Liverpool appear to be the first club to publicly say they will vote to keep VAR, Klopp himself says he would choose to scrap it.

Maybe we should do a Liverpool Wolves combined 11

I'll start:

Reina
Arbeloa Carra Hypiia Aurelio
Masch Alonso
Kuyt Gerrard Babel
Torres

In his press conference today GON confirmed that Neto has had a really good week in training and will definitely be in the squad on Sunday.

There is an injury doubt over Sarabia though

Good news on Neto.

Some other good news, which may be of interest to DJ as well, Hednesford Town despite finishing second bottom of the Northern Premier League West division, they have somehow won a reprieve from relegation. Stafford Rangers after an equally poor season will be in the same league along with Chasetown, so some big local derbies there next season!

Good to see that for Hednesford who’ve had a bit of a downward spiral over the last decade. Hope they can bounce back a little. And Stafford have also gone backwards in status. Chasetown were a tiny club until they had a couple of decent cup and trophy runs. Strange to see them now at the same level as those other clubs. Nice little ground theirs. Used to cycle past there into Chasewater
