Summer Thread -This, That and T'other

Right at this moment I'm not overly optimistic about the upcoming season. Maybe it's just the run of result over the last few months.

Let's see what the transfer window does.

I'm optimistic of another finish in the upper bottom half. 12,13,14.

Let's be honest, that's as good as it's going to get for us really. Happy to be a lower Premier League club with the odd cup run. We'd be punching above our weight financially to aspire to anything more than that I think, with all the risks that involves.

I enjoy watching us compete with the best teams, against the best players, week in week out, but it wouldn't bother me much if we played in the Championship again and I definitely wouldn't miss VAR.

Wolves are ready to demand a club record £60 million for Pedro Neto, who is reportedly a summer target for Manchester City and Newcastle.

Plenty to be optimistic about for the next season. We have a good manager who will certainly be targeting a top half finish. And we have a first 11 that’s plenty good enough to push towards a European qualification.

Challenge for the summer is to replace any first team players sold with good quality players. And to increase the first team squad from 19 to at least 23 so we aren’t as vulnerable to injuries as we were this season.

As much as I'd like Neto to stay, 60m would be a good amount to have. With us, he'd probably be selected for every game and thus be prone to another injury, At City, he'd more than likely be rotated.

We have to retain some of those who went out on loan this season. Mosquera, Lembikisa and Chiquinho are the ones I'd keep. Sell Fabio, Podence, Hodge and the others for whatever we can get. What we do with Sasa is anybody's guess.

The talk about reforming VAR will not happen because the supposed elite will still rule the roost
Sadly the system could work but it will always be in the pockets of the top teams.
I hope that the team can be revitalised with any funds that are generated and I'm hopeful that will happen.
A good start is vital and hopefully we can do that.

I'm full of hope aren't I. '

Agreed wolfie, £60m would be too good to turn down for a player who usually misses half the season.

We had a good manager who targeted a top half finish last season, together with a first 11 that was fit and available for selection far more than any other team in the division bar one, and finished the season with a run of 5 points from 30.

First and foremost, the challenge for next season is to stay in the division again. I'm optimistic we can do so if we get more depth to the squad.

Sa, Semedo and Neto all make the Euros.

Let's hope that Neto takes the Euros by storm and boosts his price to £70m.

I see Nunes misses out on a place for Portugal. If he had played more than 10 minutes per week he might have done better.

Shame.

Real steal to have got that much money for Nunes. He rarely did anything worthwhile for Wolves. Poor signing by City, every team makes some mistakes in the transfer market and I don’t see him ever getting established with them

posted on 21/5/24

As I said at the time last summer, Pep didn’t really want him and that’s been proven by his lack of game time.

He won’t get established, but he’s the type of player that’s happy sitting watching from the bench.

Nice one wulfrun, picking up the heavy lifting whilst I take barely earned summer break.

Departures - Podence, Guedes, Silva,
arrivals - Adams, CB, CF
optimism - plenty
pessimism - a bit
fantasy - mind your own business

Must admit my immediate reaction to the sending off of Semedo on Sunday was that a red card was the correct decision. And the var film showed his foot go over the ball and against Macallister’s shin so confirmed why he was given red.

But films have subsequently shown from a different angle that he didn’t catch the shin at all, his foot dropped onto the back of Macallister’s foot.

Makes it a yellow card foul to me, and shows that if the pitchside monitor only shows the foul from one angle then it’s another failure of var. Maybe this was VAR getting its revenge in Wolves for proposing the system should be scrapped

Evidently Sa to Saudi is a done deal.

GON wants rid of Fabio

Guedes doesn't want to come back, and the club want him off the books as he's one of the highest earners at the club.

The Podence deal is pretty much done.

Neto and RAN attracting the most interest, but the price we have put on Neto is putting off clubs.

It seems to me at least, that Fosun's dream of us becoming a top six contender, is falling way short of expectations.

I hope we can raise money from the sale of players like Fabio, Sa, Podence and Guedes, but also try and get rid of some of those who have been out on loan. We have over 15 that have played for a variety of clubs over the past season. I don't see many ever donning a Wolves shirt again and therefore the club should be looking to offload them. Hodge and Campbell haven't played much and would be the first on my list. Candle wouldn't be far behind.

I'd keep Mosquera, Chiquinha and Lembikisa. The mystery player for me is Bolla. He's been out on loan since we bought him and is a regular for Servette. He's also in the Hungary squad for the Euro's and has Europa League experience and is a right wingback.

Should read Cundle.

I bet we'll be bottom of the table before the first KO.

posted on 22/5/24

We maybe need to hope that Wrexham keep progressing to keep us off the bottom. York City have really let us down. They’re struggling to stay in the National League nowadays

Just received my Season Ticket renewal this morning.

Substantial increase to cover the cost of filling the empty squad places, and giving GON a proper squad of players to work with.

posted on 23/5/24

Yes, my Season Ticket has gone up by nearly 28%. Where is that extra money going?

To Fosun?
To Fabio?

Oh, I know. It's to pay for the redevelopment of the Steve Bull stand, oh wait ...

posted on 23/5/24

17.6% increase!!
