Ive just seen Southgate tryna make out he didnt pick rashford based on form this season and its simple as that when it comes to his selections

No1 reminded him he takes players who havent even played for a season? What a donut.

Wrong thread?

It seems like most top managers have no desire to be an International manager which is fully understandable and the job does require some slightly different skillsets.

Of the managers who are managing Internationally I'd say only Nagglesman is one who can still operate at a high level in club football.

Just looking at the list, since when was John O'Shea the manager of Ireland?!

Anyone got any viable alternative to Southgate? Someone who would make the most of this squad which many seem to think should clean up at International level.

Bielsa doing a very good job with Uruguay

Scaloni won the world cup and Copa America for Argentina.

I think it's easy to say that Southgate is terrible, but I don't think he is that bad, in what is an unrelenting job. Sure, the attacking options are great, but the defensive issues don't make it easy.

It use to be that international managers were older who were on the wind-down after club management, but that seems less the case now, although you rarely thing of international managers as truly great managers.

Honestly, and depending on whether he would want to come back to day-to-day football, I think Klopp would be a great choice - the press like him, he has good charisma and gets the best out of his players and his management style would suit England.

Offer Ancellotti whatever he wants - the bloke accepted Everton at one point

Klopp is pretty left wing though. Would the press and some fans give him nonsense for that?

So the guy with the French squad, a collection of players better than any other nation, is the best manager?

No shiiiiit.

International management is more about camaraderie and togetherness than it is about philosophy and shape. You never get any quality time to drill players so there's only so far you can 'manage' them. It's mainly about keeping things simple, keeping confidence up, and inspiring.

That's why I always laugh when I hear x club has taken on a successful international manager. They're completely different jobs. Just ask Scolari.

Unrelenting job? It's not anything like as hard as club management. It's a few friendlies and qualifiers per year and then a big tournament for 3-4 weeks every 2 years.

His job is piiisss easy and he is paid a fortune and plays rubbish anti-football with a great talented bunch of players.
