I'm not so sure. When it comes to executives and sports administrators, the INEOS crew have moved in those circles and speak the C-suite language, so they would be confident that they can pick the right people based on their connections and their intuitions. The head coach operates in a different world, with a more specialised set of skills. I don't think INEOS necessarily had a preconception that they wanted 'their coach' regardless of performance. Perhaps Wilcox wanted to bring in his own choice, but ultimately if things were going amazingly there would be a lot of reasons to not pull the plug before Ashworth and the rest of the new sporting operation are even formally employed by the club.

As much as I agree with the decision and think he does deserve to lose his job......the way the media have absolutely hounded him of late is nothing short of a disgrace.

They asked him in the presser the other day 'how does it feel Erik that this could be your last game in charge'

Absolute jokers. How is he even meant to respond to a question like that anyway? Talk about kicking a man when he's down.

This brings to mind the day or two after the cup final in 2016 when I met Phil Neville in the arrivals part of Valencia airport and broke the news to him that LVG had been sacked. A very surreal moment.

Good, it had to happen. We’re going to get a battering tomorrow no matter what happens. Ten Hag’s done. We all welcome Pochettino as our new manager and wish him the best…or McKenna if it’s him instead…or De Zerbi or etc etc.

We could actually give it to Giggsy till the end of the season then replace him in July.
