Only a casual follower of tennis, but can anyone explain to me why, for 3 Slams in a row now, Sinner & Alcaraz have been in one half of the draw, and Djoko has been in the other? Am I missing something? Why are the 1 & 3 seeds in the same half … yet again?

To be fair, I could be wrong but I thought it was always staggered like that.
I mean you can’t have 1&2 in the same half?
And I’m sure Alcaraz & Sinner won’t meet until the semi.

Eh, think you’re missing the point. Of course 1 & 2 can’t be in the same half, but all logic & fairness suggests 1 & 4 should be in one half, 2 & 3 in the other half … surely? What’s the advantage to Sinner being world no.1, when he keeps being drawn to play Alcaraz in the semis AND Djoko in the final? Meanwhile the 2nd seed (Djoko) keeps avoiding both Sinner & Alcaraz till the final. That’s nonsense.

Um.. yeh, you got a point.
I’ve never really thought aboot it being an unfair thing though..
it’s a bit like sometimes being on Pole in F1.. is not always to the drivers advantage.

It seems hugely unfair (to the top seed) at the moment, when the top 3 are clearly way better than the next level. Has happened for several Slams in a row now, which makes no sense to me.

In Snooker the top seed generally gets a slightly more "favourable" draw. The number 1 seed wouldn't play the number 2 seed until the Final.

Medvedev wins the 1st set. 6-3.

Both playing some cracking tennis though. Medders already stressing me out.

That’s the case in tennis, it’s just that you’d usually expect 1 and 4 to be on the same side of the draw rather than 1 and 3.

Lajovic wins the 2nd set 6-3
1 set all into the 3rd we go.

And Medders has gone off the court to take a extended break, and the stream just ended,

Within seconds the medic started massaging what looked like a bit of cramp.
Somehow he got away with it… Evans was staring daggers, but the officials did nothing to stop it.
