My biggest issue in supermarkets is the self-checkouts.
If I wanted to have been a checkout boy i would have dropped out of school early. It is one of the biggest cons ever that supermarkets make self-checking out more appealing by making the checkouts less appealing by understaffing them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A bigger worry is the conclusion of this like bank ATMs and no branches that everything becomes online - fack that.
If the checkouts are chokka and I’ve got a trolley sorry but I’m coming through the basket self checkout and will argue the to55 if any cant stops me. Staff the checkouts you cants.
Wall greens in the US almost every item is locked and you have to ask someone to get it out for you - nightmare.

I'm sure there was a scandal recently where it was revealed customers were being filmed and the footage reviewed manually in India
People who walk slow or have no spatial awareness in supermarkets. Block the whole aisle up while they’re browsing for baked beans.
I try not to get annoyed at it as it is what it is, it’s not out of malice and I probably do the same to forget. But people in the cashier queue with a massive shop in the trolley, who don’t offer people behind them with like one item to go in front.
When I used to work at a supermarket there was something that annoyed me at people eating items of food they’d picked up in the shop (usually something like a snack like crisps or bars) and putting the empty/partially empty wrapper on the till to be scanned. Just something I don’t like about that, I think it is anarchy.
I’m a big fan of Lidl and Aldi and shop there when I can but always annoying that once you go through the cashier you’re essentially ‘locked off’ from entering supermarket again. Things like popping up the toilet or going back to get one more item can get unnecessarily long. Also they both sometimes have absolutely no in person cashier at all and everything is self service which I don’t like.

It's 2024 and only now has my local aldi installed self checkout machines. Aldi has been decent, but was annoying that you had to go to the tills and half of them are always closed so were always stuck in a massive queue at aldi.
Finally they've installed self check outs though

People who think it's OK to get really close and reach over you to get something from a shelf. Bit of patience please!
Cashiers who chat with you no matter what signals you give back. Sometimes I really don't want to chat!

People who take ages at one spot and you have to reach around them to get what you want. The supermarket don't belong to your mama. Other people also want to use it and move on with their lives. Can't imagine rushing urgently into the supermarket for something and having to wait behind some guy who can't decide what flavour of vimto they want to buy because I'm not allowed to reach around them.

Haven’t read all replies so these might have been done
1. Lazy twaaats who wander round the whole supermarket using their trolley to prop them up because it’s too much effort to stand up straight
