You've put forward a list of players that England have produced over the last what, 20+ years

You could write similar if not better lists for Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal
etc...

These are the teams you need to beat to win major tournaments.....Greece managed it with a bit of luck, Greece didn't expect to win 1 major tournament in the last 50 years, they know they got lucky

England expect it....so what you are saying is that England expect, that at some stage over the last 50 years, they should have done better than every single other country in Europe at a Euros, and better than every single other country in the World at a World Cup....they don't think they had a chance to have done that, they expected to have done that....but that's not arrogant

It’s not unreasonable at all. It’s no more unreasonable than saying Belgium should have won a major tournament with their golden generation. That’s all I’m saying. Countries that produce high quality international players will naturally expect to compete for and at least win a tournament over for 20-30 year period

Again it’s not a divine right but we were a penalty shootout away from doing it 4 years ago. That’s why expectation levels are high - because we can do it and I think we should have done by now

Arsenal are the second best team in the Premier League, the best league in the world, and have some top quality players….do Arsenal fans expect to win the European Cup when they know they are in there with the likes of Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern…..naw

I urge you to take a look at the teams you’ve lost to at major tournaments over the last 20 odd years

Think other than Iceland and Croatia, the rest have been your Frances, Germanys, Portugals and Brazils of this world….and even if you did beat Iceland and Croatia, you’d still have to have beaten a France or a Portugal to win the thing

If there are always better teams than you at these tournaments, expecting to win any of them is folly

You should be happy getting to semis and finals……and you should know that you will need a bit of luck to win anything, not expect it

I think if Arsenal were going into the champions league with a similar quality of players to Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid etc and had been getting to semi finals and finals then yeah - their fans might expect this might be their year

We were a penalty shootout away from winning the euros. That shows it’s not unreasonable to expect that with the quality of players we now have (Foden, Bellingham, Kane etc) that we could go one step further.

I think a lot of this is media driven as well. England expects is a stupid tagline. Footballs coming home is another one. I think most fans are hopeful rather than expectant but absolutely believe we have the players to do it

I think the reason we don’t is down to the other key ingredient - mentality.

Most England fans could see that 2002 was the beginning of a new generation - we didn’t expect to win the thing and weren’t as good as Brazil.

Think that has to be up there as one of the worst performances of any team, let alone Scotland

We showed nothing, absolutely nothing in an attacking sense

Germany were good, but we didn't half make them look good

Far far too negative, with zero threat in attacking areas whatsoever, and it just allowed the Germans to fling bodies forward without fear

There were points in that second half when Germany's centre halfs were sitting 30 yards from our goal....simply cannot sit that deep, 10 men or not, that's ridiculous

Depleted with injuries but even so, the gap between the quality of the players and the tactics couldn’t be any wider.

Truth be told, we haven’t kicked a ball since we qualified. Anyways, on to the Swiss game on

Why are some of ours getting so wound up over a couple of 15 year old spotty trolls by the way? They’re just kids trying to bait and managing to get a reaction. Weird behaviour both ways.

I’ll watch the England games and wish them well. I’ve far too many English friends and relatives to start playing childish pranks with. And if they win it (which they should), then they’ve every right to gloat. In fact, serious questions need asking if they don’t win it.
