Ronaldo vs Ronaldo

Saying CR7 was quicker and more skilful is nearly as offensive as calling R9 a box player.

CR7 for sure.

R9 even in his best seasons never had the output of CR7.

Plus CR7 was a better athlete, better in the air, better finisher and had a bigger bag of tricks.

No blue chip World Cups though Liquid. A poxy Euros which Portugal only managed to win once Ronaldo had left the field, so he didn’t really win it.

Its really not. I think you are doing Cristiano an injustice here.

R9 has been clocked doing the 100m in 10.2 seconds. Some say he is the fastest player ever, I’m not sure you’ve ever seen him play going by your comments.

The term 'unplayable' gets thrown around by pundits but R9 at his peak was about as close to unplayable as I think I've seen.

He was so fast with the ball at his feet, could beat people with ease, get close to him and he'd turn you, give him space and he'd pick it up and run at you. He was strong enough to hold the ball up well, scored from all distances, kept defenders and keepers guessing by shooting really early at times but also a natural and calm box finisher.

The perfect no.9 in all but one way - injuries.

CR7 was one of the best ever. His career and stats are absolutely stellar. His athleticism, determination and mental strength are just unrivalled. He made himself an outstanding player. In terms of peaks though, R9 for me.

We need hafi stats for this god dammit

CR7 was also rapid at his peak.

R9 was a great, no doubt, but again, you are doing CR7 a disservice.

Coming into this late but with valuable input, Ronaldo for me.

Yes he was rapid, but simply not as quick and certainly not as good acceleration.

Saying CR7 was more skilful is also a bit of a joke, I’ve never seen Nazario trip himself up with his own step over.

Stuff like that is a bit of a litmus test and no offence, but I don’t think you watched R9 play.

CR7 was neither quicker nor trickier than R9. Absolutely not. And having done his knee for the first time at age 20, I don’t think we ever got to be as fast as he might have become. CR7's finishing wasn't as good either, though it did get better as his career went on.

What age do people think peak Ronaldo was, anyway? Around 29-ish?

True, but it’s not close enough between them for the WC to put R9 over the top.

Also, R9 wasn’t at his peak in 2002. At that World Cup, he was restricted to being a box player. His peak was 1996-98.

I’d take CR7 2013-17 over R9 96-98.

Yeah but there’s two World Cups Liquid. The bluest, chippiest blue chips there are. Throw in the two Copa’s and by your own parameters it’s R9.

Thanks tho!

If R9 was really that good why didn't he do more underpant ads?

Could those saying CR7 was better overall please explain what they mean without alluding to the fact he had a longer and more successful career?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Longevity and the amount of goals are massive things to consider. CR7 was better in the air, could play on the wing, obviously in his early career and could score different types of goals, unlike R9 who was more of a box player, although did score one or two from mazy runs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This screams 'I never watched R9 play'
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I did and he was more of a box player than a young CR7. say the opposite and you may not have seen him play!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolute hogwash

Quite often picked the ball up around the halfway line or out on the wing. Could beat a man (men) on his own. Could create his own chances and chances for others.

Astounds me not only that people have these weird views of players but that they state them with such unfounded confidence.

Barefoot - there are hundreds of R9 clip compilations on youtube. Pick one, watch it. Actually, I'll get one for you - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyF2mK939aM&t=324s

Just the first one on the list. That's your box player.

Maradona > R9 > Messi = Ronaldo> Zidane

Loved fat Ronaldo but cmon, Cristiano is a diick but he is a great player and did it for years. Longevity MUST come into these discussions.

Messi is the greatest ever, zero doubt, Cristiano is certainly top five also. As someone said above, fat Ronaldo is top 15-20 perhaps

"Not who had the better career which is CR7 but at their peak who was the better player?"

"There's no way you can answer that question without factoring in longevity."

We've seen that banning these people is no deterrent. No one hates to say so more than I, but the only thing for it is to take these people outside and shoot them in the face.

You can tell who are millennials just from this thread 👀

I remember watching R9 dismantle man utd @ OT with a hatrick, barely breaking a sweat, past his peak at that point, 20+ years ago.

Career/drive etc - Cristiano Ronaldo
Talent/peak ability/aesthetically - Ronaldo Nazario

posted on 11/6/24

Cristiano Ronaldo was better overall. More creative, more precise finishing, better in the air, more intelligent movement. Ronaldo de Lima was technically superior with better balance and more nimble footwork. They have a lot in common in their strength and explosive athleticism and 2-footed shooting.
