For Man Utd? Maybe Giggs, Scholes, Beckham one of them since they didnt cost you a penny, cant get much better bang for buck than that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Scholes in defence would mean they would never finish with 11 - even 10 would be pushing it.
Never understood why “scholes can’t tackle” was just laughed off by refs rather than cards after he scythed another opponent down - laughed off like “what do you expect, it’s Scholes, he can’t tackle”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That was just a myth, he could tackle, very well in fact but he played at a time when there were a lot of foreigners coming into the PL with their diving and ref conning, it’s rife nowadays that’s why you don’t hear people say “Casemiro can’t tackle” for instance
Wait hold up, is this just Man Utd players….
11 Mark Hughes obviously..

Obviously not the best ever but Daley Blind is a very versatile footballer who is pretty comfortable in most positions, seem to remember one game for United at cb where he completely owned Lukaku
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been an absolute jack-of-all-trades since the new Lyon manager came in halfway through the season.
Most of it has been at LB and RB. But I've also seen him start at RCM, LCM, Defensive mid & attacking mid.
I've just checked, and he also had the second highest number of assists for them.

this most certainly is not just Manchester united players.
Surely the answer, under any metric, is still Messi. He's short so he won't do much as a centre half or goalkeeper but he's so, so good everywhere else, he'd just outscore the opposition.
Benzema....the number of goals this lad laid on a plate for CR7
Then CR7 goes and benzo steps up with 25+ goals a season
great as a 9 or a 10
Kane has played in goal.
Scores for fun
His passing ability is De Bruyne levels.
He puts in a lovely cross
he's good in the air and defending at set pieces.
Cannot really tackle, or run, but would be a good deep sitting quarter back style DM

Oh right… my bad
Pele XI. Unstoppable Unbeatable
Kai Havertz.
The past season has seen him used as a striker. A left winger. On the left side of a 3-man midfield. And curiously enough as a left-back for his national side.
Sergio Ramos
Incredible as a right back & centre back
saw him play in midfield once early on in his time at Madrid...ran the show...was spraying passes like prime Pirlo
Exceptional in the air, very good FK taker & exceptional penalty taker
Scorer of v important goals at crucial times
The most clutch player I've ever seen
A born leader
Worth his weight in goal
Now that I think about, this thread should be renamed the Sergio Ramos thread, as no other player "pound for pound" comes close to him
The most allround choice would be Gullit with no real weaknesses, but in practice I think a team of 11 Iniesta's would be literally unplayable as it would be impossible to get the ball back. Don't need a goalkeeper or defenders if you can do a 11 man rondo in midfield with 99% possession and just pass it into goal just before full time...

By the iniesta logic, him against someone like Moussa Dembele who also was very difficult to retrieve the ball from.
one is by far a better player as an individual but evens up when they are multiplied into a team.
As others have said Ronaldo is a very good shout, especially in this hypothetical situation of the team can train together and build themselves up over a league. Initially he/they would struggle in defence but with his mindset he would soon probably become good and has he athleticism to do it.
Kante is another good shout just for pure energy and stamina. Maybe even someone like prime Wijnaldum, with a bit more shooting ability than Kante?
Kane decent shout but lacks athleticism
Disagree with Messi and Iniesta shouts too, inevitably could struggle against certain teams.

You've clearly never watched him play - the only way he does what he does is cos he does fack all the rest of the time! Opposition would stroll through and score every time they had the ball.
Similarly for CR7 - no way the narcissist would get his jersey dirty for the wholly menial task of stopping goals - only scoring goals interests him and only for himself so again, he's never passing to himself and a team of CR7s would be routed.
For this task you need a mucker, a workhorse, a never say die throw themselves into it type. Many mentioned.

Yeah, so this isn’t true.
There are numerous footballer who Messi would not be able to win the ball back from though.
nah the P4P is Sergio Ramos...not even close
Gareth Bale. Played in defence, moved up the pitch during his career. Carried Wales for years. Can even play Golf
Bit late to the debate, but I'd throw in Lothar Matthaus. Was a brilliant attacking mid for a large h of his career, moved deeper as he aged, and ended up being an excellent sweeper.
Not sure how he'd get on as a wide player due to pace, but he could definitely play any line.
The other I'd throw in would be Alfredo Di Stefano. Though primarily a forward, he had a reputation in his time for being the total footballer. The could of be a lot of waxing lyrical about him, but old timers used to say he was the sort to snuff out an opposition attack in Madrid's box, initiate the attack, and get up the other end to apply the finish.
Pound for pound, Big Ronaldo C9.
