Saka’s obviously an excellent player but Palmer has that extra X-factor. And not only that, he has a demeanour and coldness that reminds me a bit of 2004 Rooney. You fancy him to be able to produce something against any team and you can clearly see he’s full of confidence in himself - just totally unfazed. I think it would be a massive waste not to get him in the team.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree on this. Palmer made a difference when he came on. England were trying to pass quickly and move Slovenia around, but every pass was the obvious one. Palmer played two or three that weren't and that looked more like opening them up. And he does have that unfazed quality, like you say.
I wouldn't mind seeing a midfield and attack of:
Mainoo Rice
Palmer Foden Gordon
Kane
It's not going to happen, especially if we get the Netherlands.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That would be a superb team for a braver manager out there

Just drop Bellingham deeper, play Shaw even if one leg is hanging off as he won’t be worse than Trippier and get Gordon running at defenders
Pickford
Walker Stones Guehi Shaw
Rice Bellingham
Foden
Saka Kane Gordon
Would love to see that side in the last 16
Bellers looks knackered, i think dropping him deeper would cause even more issues. Just drop one of them.

Meltons lineup looks good and it really shows how naive Safegate was in relying so much on Shaw being able to be fit and ready to play when he hasn’t played 90 minutes since last year. Surely we have a better plan B than Trippier?
I think Foden is far more useful in unlocking defences and working with others whereas Bellingham is gonna get you a goal here or there (the McTominay comparison was very good) but so far playing both clearly isn’t working.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Top managers would have adopted a modern solution to the issue of no left back. Could have played Gomez left back, dropping into a three with the right back inverting into midfield. Both Walker and TAA have done it for their clubs, Stones has done it for City, Gomez has done the left back dropping into a three system. It's tried and tested already.
No idea why England need a traditional back four with two holding players in midfield.

Him dropping deeper in the first game after the goal when England had actually played well is what caused the issues in the first place.
There were actually people who wanted Southgate as our next manager 😣

Stones steps forward into midfield for the City all the time. Hasnt done it once for England.
The advancement of the game in terms of inverted FBs and CBs stepping forward has passed Southgate by. Deep down he wants a back 5.
The only time Foden has looked good in this tourney is when he played centrally in that second half today. As he’s the best player in the PL right now he really should play there in the second round and make that spot his own. He would be far more of a nightmare to play against operating in that pocket but will Safegate do the right thing or just leave that decision for the next manager
Mainoo Rice
Palmer Foden Gordon
Kane
I second whoever said this.
Also, play Trent or Trippier RB and move Walker to the left,
Yesterday he had the look of a player in a grump because he's being made to play LM when he want to be @10.
AT a different level but he reminds me of Dele Alli in that his best position is at 10, from where he links well with the striker, makes those late runs into the box, good goal instincts, is quick thinking and has decent feet in tight situations....but put him anywhere else and he loses much of his game, because he's not a pacey dribbler and he is not in the middle of everything but is more wide where options and ability to link play etc are reduced.
If Foden is delivering more then he plays 10 and Bellingham is either dropped or goes more box to box as an 8 - which would require him to up his work rate.
I think Bellingham has a good attitude but think that his role at Madrid has turned him into a bit of a luxury player, where he is not expected to work so hard.

Have you seen him play for RM? His work rate for them has been phenomenal.
What do people think of Ian Wright's suggestion of putting Saka at LB, both to accommodate Palmer and solve the issue of ball progression down that flank? Would be a bold attacking move with obvious defensive risks, so I can't see Southgate doing it.

It's an interesting idea. Can see England needing to improvise a full back at some point. Assuming they stay in the tournament.
more players out of position to accommodate others yes that will solve it
All we are doing is having to accommodate a shiiit manager who doesn't have a chance of winning anything. It's all pointless talking about where players should play, when we know Safegate will play it safe and doesn't even coach the players the right way anyway, nor is able to properly read or change a game when it's going against us.
From what I’ve heard Shaw is ready to go and should play against Holland (?)
Probably not fully fit as ever but probably dosed up on painkiller injections

I think if you're going to do that, you're better off letting Trent play RB and Walker left, which becomes a 3 when in possession.
Walker is arguably the best RB in the league, why are people suggesting he should play LB just to accommodate other players?
