Literally the only things Brown had to do with the 2008 collapse were failing to address the wholesale deregulation of the financial sector, which had been going on worldwide under right and left of centre governments for 30-odd years (and remains to this day), and the recapitalisation of the banks, which the vast majority of people thought, and think to this day, was a good idea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He/Labour may not have materially contributed to the cause but he took us into that period having ignored calls to slow down spending and address the deficit (which would have been a massive political winner, as it would have taken such ammo away from the Tories).
Despite "good times" (largely off a growing global economy) , spending was going up, taxes were going up and the deficit was going up, then Boom!
Brown was to our economy what Risdale was to Leeds' finances !
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is reaching somewhat.
The deficit was not increasing in real terms or as a percentage of GDP leading up to 2008. It barely moved from a very manageable level (around 1% GDP) between 2005 and 2008.
It only rocketed after the 2008 collapse when the decision was made to bail the banks out.
In short, the deficit at the end of 2007 wasn’t any kind of issue whatsoever and wasn’t high up on anyone’s agenda.
And in context, the UK’s budget deficit for the fiscal year 2023/24 was 4.4% of GDP.
Labour’s biggest failures were Iraq, failure to regulate the banks and bailing them out. The rest is Tory bluster.
Ironically, the Tories that criticise Labour for this would have done the same and then some.
The economy is in a worse state in 2024 than it was in 2010 yet the Tories and Reform can offer tax cuts in this election, funny that.
Labour’s biggest failures were Iraq, failure to regulate the banks and bailing them out. The rest is Tory bluster.
……
It will now be down to Labour to see if they can make things change for the better.
They will be taking over an absolute $hit show from the Tories, so there should be no excuses.
Otherwise the phrase “bluster” will become a Labour trademark.
FYI Trevor Chin and his associates who support Labour Friend of Israel have bank rolled Starmer, Lammy and 20% of Labour MP's.
Their influence is growing and is very worrying.
My favourite part of this thread was the guy who said he always voted Tories, despite not always agreeing with their policies. Then turning around accusing others of being sheep for voting based on their preferences.

He might genuinely be the most stupid person on the site now Maf has left.
I’m trying to work out who I would like most of these Tory cuuuuunts to lose their seat. It’s a tough one given just how many vile priiiiicks are in the party.

Daz, my missus is probs more politically motivated and involved than I and we had the exact same discussion last night, we simply could not settle on one?

Symbolically, Sunak would be the best.
But I really cannot decide between Braverman and Rees-Mogg.
Braverman would be at the top of my list, closely followed by the likes of Philip Davies, Liam Fox, Badenoch, Truss, Steve Canting Baker and Rees Mogg.

Sadly it won't make a difference to Sunak. He'll jump in the chopper up north, make sure the staff have everything packed before getting on the private jet to somewhere with a friendlier tax regime.

It’s more who I would like to lose most, rather than the likelihood of it.
Who did you vote for Daz? You in a safe seat or one where tactical voting is at play?
Reluctantly Labour, because it’s not a safe seat.
I’ve plenty of issues with the current Labour party, but I’m going to facking enjoy these Tory cuuuunts getting absolutely raaaaped. Preferably, literally and figuratively.
The silence from JRM has been deafening during this election.

No idea, you're asking the wrong person.
Apparently loads of Reform voters have been none too happy, as it’s only once they’ve got to the polling booth they’ve realise there’s no Reform candidate in their constituency.
If that doesn’t sum up your average Reform voter I don’t know what does.
