Aquilani is right up there with him. Imagine trying to replace Alonso with that. Cost you top 4 and it took you a while to get back in there.

Yeah but if you're applying cost as a ratio then it has to be Antony or Mudryk, otherwise there are thousands of shiiiit players that have graced the Prem.

I had forgot about him, he was so bad.

What I think the pecking order is:

LW - 1. Rashford. 2. Garnacho. 3. Sancho
RW - 1. Garnacho. 2. Amad. 3. Sancho. 4. Antony

I just think the impact of failing to properly replace Alonso was huge for Liverpool. Cost you a lot of money in lost revenue through failing to qualify for the CL. I think it was 4 seasons before you got back in the top 4. Even taking into account transfer inflation, Aqualini cost less than Antony. But the his signing was pretty catastrophic for Liverpool.

Probably right. Antony needs to feck off really.

Remember when Antony first came in and was doing his fidget spinner routine? The PL quickly humbled him.

Aquilani was actually good for Liverpool when he played. Problem is he barely played. Losing Alonso was not the reason Liverpool failed to qualify for the CL. Having poor owners was the reason. Due to their situation and subsequently the situation the club was put in, all the top players wanted to leave and they did, with the exception of the English ones. Can't blame them since the club was sold to them as on the up and so it was until the issues with the owners arose and they saw they would be better off elsewhere.

Hopefully we’ll still sell Sancho and bring another winger in.

posted on 20/7/24

Antony, imo, needs to forget playing as an inverted winger. He is no use what so ever on the right.

I very much doubt he would care any better on the left, mind, but one of his very few assists came from the left.

Yeah that’s probably the best we can do with what we have. Like Darren says, hopefully we can sell Sancho and get a replacements. Hopefully we move on Pellistri too, no point keeping him.

Will be interesting to see how much Amad plays this season, think he’s talented but not yet convinced he’s worth keeping yet.

If Shaw stays fit for 70% of the season or more (big if I know) then Rashford will look like a different player.

Last season he had Lindelof and Wan Bissaka as the left back for majority of it. Nobody is thriving in that scenario.

I think it will be Rashford LW and Garnacho RW to start off with again.

Sancho I think will leave before the window shuts.

Amad, Zirkzee and Antony (or a new winger) will be the back ups.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

He's played his whole career from the right, his best assist for us by far was against Chelsea from the right and all of his best moments (basically, a few quality goals) have been a result of him coming onto his left foot from the right.

And of course he was signed off the strength of his form over two seasons at Ajax from the right.

His issue isn't that he's not an inverted winger or should be playing a different position. His issue is that he's just not good enough or effective enough at PL level.

A guess a lot depends on Sancho as far the OP's question goes.

If Zirkzee is starting, then we'll need wide players who can play off of him and provide that goal threat, so Rashford & Garnacho down each side makes sense.

If it's Rasmus, he needs players who can create a bit more and feed him. That's where players like Sancho (if he stays) or Amad could come in on the right.

You are misunderstanding me. I am not for the minute suggesting we try him on the left. But if he wants to play at the top level then maybe he should try it.

What I am saying is that at the top level he will be utterly useless on the right whether he has played there all his life or not.

I actually thought you sold him at the wrong time. Seem to recall he had a few good games towards the end. We did the same with Veron. But overall both were poor signings

Yeh I agree with this. He's basically got one trick. Show him outside and he's useless.
