It’s all pr at this stage, discussions around costing aren’t even worth considering at this points whilst the Glazers are still majority shareholders.

Exactly.I raisedthis earlier.

When exactly does Jim have to buy out the rest of the Glazers shares. I thought initially it was within 3 years and after that Glazers could tout somebody else and force Jim to sell back his 27pc if they accepted another bid. All went quiet on this. It must be less than 18 months now.

Everton's new stadium is costing 750m for comparison. Okay ours will be bigger but it gives you an idea of money involved as that one is still going to be around 50k capacity.

I think talks of 5 and 6bn are completely fat fetched. 2.5bn should be able to build a world class stadium on that site no problem. 3bn at a push.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Think Spurs will be a better comparison but on a bigger scale
----------------------------------------------------------------------

For how impressive it should be then I agree. I just think London prices makes that difficult. Wages and construction costs are much higher down there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But it was 5 years ago. Pre brexit. Pre covid. Pre Ukraine war, pre inflation crisis, pre interest rate hikes.

Spurs built in the perfect summer of low borrowing and low cost. Now it's the opposite.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why are you opposed to it anyway as a Spurs fan? Is it as obvious as you wanting the shiniest most impressive stadium around? It is, isn't it?

We are one of the biggest clubs in the world with one of the highest average attendances. We deserve a world class stadium.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am not opposed to it whatsoever.

New stadiums fascinate me and I will watch with genuine interest to see how United bring it forward.

All i can speak of is Spurs experience, how many years it was in the pipeline, how many iterations of design we had and, in Levy, what level of absolute infinite detail was applied to the process in delivering the stadium. It is an absolute cash cow but at the same time it doesnt feel like that, it is a superb stadium and a brilliant fan experience.

But if we started building it today, it would likely be costing us double or more and just getting it off the ground in terms of financing would be a massive challenge.

Utd are one of the worlds biggest clubs and really should have a stadium to reflect this, but even Utd might find the level of investment needed to be challenging. Sir Jim has already shown some of his true colours in how he has gone about cutting costs at all levels, what I am most curious to see is that when it comes to a new stadium is he Mr Marginal-Gains or is he more Mr egotistical corporate show-off and wanting THE biggest and best stadium in the world.

However it comes forward, it seems a bit impossible while the Glazers are still in control, while debt is so high and while they're still extracting their healthy dividend

RBW I don't think London elite has an anti-northern agenda. The incoming Labour government in particular has a lot of motivation to be seen to be supporting the rest of the country, as it is competing for votes it lost/won back in traditional working class areas. The Tories were a different matter, but even then the bias wasn't regional, just a case of being a party that represents the interests of the ruling class, so 'levelling up' was always primarily a rhetorical attempt to appeal to the plebs rather than a genuine ambition. And cancelling HS2 was one of many decisions the Tories made that involved kicking the can down the road for short-term convenience at the expense of the medium- to long-term good to the country. (Today's revelation that they concealed an additional £20 billion hole in government finances, meaning they were aware that their spending and tax cut election promises were absolutely unfeasible, are yet another symptom of this.)

Taken over football operations, his stake in Utd is through minority shareholding (27.7%). The Glazers are and still remain majority shareholders, in other words the main owners.

Until he legally takes over "full" ownership the Glazers have final say.

Maybe that could be the new name for the stadium?

(How many self-confessed Man United fans worlwide Have been to OT? Not many. Makes you wonder why it's important that we have a big new shiny stadium to people who might never use it)

For the amount of money we would have to spend on a new stadium to benefit only 1% of our fanbase, we could buy iPads and skysports prescriptions for the other 99% instead so that all of our fans could watch us. They could use the iPad to access the club shop as well so we'd make it all back in shirt sales. But only if we re-sign Pogba.

Jim is legally obligated to buy the rest of the club. I think within six years but not sure of the time.

If I recall correctly, he's not obliged to buy the club. I think he has first option at an agreed price, and if he doesn't meet that price by a specified date, the Glazers have the right to sell to a third party.

I remember reading Jim had 3 years to complete the buy out. Otherwise Glazers could look elsewhere and even force Jim to sell back his initial investment.

Its funny that nobody on here including myself is sure of the terms of the Ineos investment considering at the time we were all 'experts' on the detail of the deal.

So in simple terms, we don't know for sure! Without sorting out the ownership the stadium project may not even take off! Jim needs to hurry up and take overall control; leaving Glazers as nothing more than minority shareholders, would prefer to see the back of them completely but it may be wishful thinking.

He also needs to consider his age and think about how long, health permitting, he's able to maintain a hands on approach.

Vanity - that's all non match going fans are concerned with. We should have the best stadium in the world, one befitting our rightful place as an elite football club.
