Thought you guys all said Casemiros legs had gone?

"of course depending on what happens for the rest of the window" is maybe the key phrase in the OP.

I guess a lot of the incomings reflect the outgoings, not just in terms of revenue flow, but also having a certain number of senior players in each area of the squad - and quite possibly a certain balance in each area around age spread / salary with an eye on succession planning, etc. So I suspect that the recruitment of De Ligt means we're expecting to sell another CB. And perhaps hesitation over midfield recruitment is evidence that we don't know whether we're just replacing Amrabat (possibly with Amrabat) or anticipating having a bigger hole to fill.

If rumours are to be believed, we are waiting on De Jong again.

They had a return ticket.

I don’t have much faith in Casemiro ever being the 22/23 version for us again but he was in defence a lot last season so maybe him being back in midfield might be the making of him

Would be happy to flog one of McT or Casemiro whoever gets a decent offer. If we manage to sell Sancho too that would buy us 2 midfielders, probably Ugarte and Berge. Which would be good balance in fairness.

Think Lindelof will leave too.

Fernandes is apparently signing an extension.

Think we'll get at least one MF in.

Sancho/Ugarte swap wouldn't be a bad deal at all. Use any leftover funds for another midfielder.

As much as I like Mainoo I'd like to see him used less/given more rest this season.

Collyer for some games

If De Ligt signs, I suspect 'lof or Maguire will go (probably 'lof), leaving:

Martinez
De Ligt
Maguire
Yoro
Evans

It's a decent group.

FBs should be:

Dalot
Shaw
Mazraoui
Malacia/Amass

Probably short of a body there given the injury records of Shaw, Mazraoui and Malacia. If Malacia isn't back playing football by January, I think we have to questions whether he'll ever put a United jersey on again.

€60m for Ugarte and €45m aren’t really the same are they?

The issue is we don’t value Ugarte at that price so won’t over pay. I’d imagine we see de Ligt at €45m as a good price which it is if he can stay fit. Sounds like if we can get the fee to around €50m we’ll accept.

Bruno’s just signed a new deal

EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United have reached an agreement with Bruno Fernandes to extend his contract!

New deal will be valid until June 2027 plus option included for further season, June 2028 — salary at top #MUFC level.

All set to be signed before end of the summer window.

I don’t think it’s strange.

We didn’t have any defenders last season if you remember, so it’s actually pretty logical.

We obviously need at least one more midfielder in the squad but some of the 'midfield' deficiencies we saw last year (including Casemiro's) were greatly exacerbated by tactics and shape. Fix that and we'll see the existing personnel in a more flattering light, even before the necessary upgrades.

If Shaw can play regularly and Zirkzee gets a few games I can see Rashford getting a bunch.

Will be interesting to see how Mazraoui does and if he can offer much offensively and combine well with whoever is in front of him. Can’t remember the last time we had a RB who was any kind of attacking threat.

This is a joke, right?

Just a reminder that Bruno led us in PL goals last season, led in shots on target/90 mins, led in assists (twice as many as the next player), led the league in chance creation, led us in accurate long ball completion, led in accurate crosses, top three in tackles and interceptions/90 mins (after Casemiro and Dalot)…

He was also 2023/24 winner of the Sir Matt Busby POTY award, his third time in five seasons at the club.

Alongside Martinez, he’s the least of our worries.

Hes our best player.

If we had somebody who could finish, Bruno would have racked up the most assists in the PL last season. He made the most chances out of every single player which is remarkable given how crap we were.

I don't get the Bruno hate personally. Been out best signing in the post Fergie era by a mile.

Was about to say pretty much the same thing - you beat me to it!

Only thing I was going to add is that we very obviously needed two CB signings this summer even before Yoro's injury (as well as because Yoro is only 18).

If we got a midfielder in I'd say it's a very promising first Ineos window.

Casemiro has a good game yesterday. If we can’t shift McTominay or Casemiro I expect Collyer will be fast tracked a bit like Mainoo last year.
