I think it’s still quite unknown just how good Hojlund can be because he still hasn’t played much top level football and needs to develop quite a lot more. We overpaid but we’re also desperate for a striker (even if he wasn’t/isn’t ready to lead the line). I like his attitude and he seems like a good lad in the squad, I do think Zirkzee has attributes that are better suited at bringing in others into attack which is important as we can’t rely on one player to get so many goals.
Hopefully he’s free from injury this season and gets a run of games, like most strikers seems to do well over a short period scoring a few.

Yes I think this is a fair assessment. There’s definitely a very good player in there. It was no surprise to me that he started scoring when Rashford & Nacho actually passed the ball to him

Problem is players like Rashford and Garnacho aren’t your traditional wide men who primarily put balls into the box which Hojlund would do well from. They’re both far better suited playing with someone with Zirkzee’s attributes which could get us more goals from multiple players.
Going to be interesting to see how both Zirkzee and Hojlund do and how well they link up with others. I wonder if EtH has any plans to play them together?

Apologies that's not right, we were actually third from shots as a result of high turnovers in April, not in number of turnovers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think that’s indicative of how dangerous we can be in transitions. And just how good Bruno is at creating chances when there’s space for our runners.
Hopefully we’ll see improvements in these numbers this season with more depth and how the rest of the team behind them can help our pressing.
I don’t think that Hojlund is that good, but he’s still young and has room to grow. My issue is that he doesn’t really play well with our other attackers. We just look better with a striker that they can play off, rather than one that wants to always run in behind - and his movements in and around the box need big improvements, it caused as many issues as Garnacho and Rashford’s failures to make the right pass to him, as he’d often make the wrong runs that ruined good attacking opportunities.

Dazza, what do you think to the idea that Hojlund may not be the right player to complement Rashford and Garnacho, but ultimately we need to gradually retool the squad so it's not entirely reliant on creating the kinds of chances they thrive on? Similar to the way adding Onana's superior distribution didn't enable us to build from the back, because we still had AWB, Varane, Casemiro, McTominay, etc in the back six. If we want to become a more multifaceted team, it takes several windows to assemble the necessary squad.
Not necessarily my view, but it's a view! I definitely see what seems to be Zirkzee's skill set as a more comfortable fit in the current squad.

I think that’s fair, but then the current version of Hojlund doesn’t really address those issues given his current ability. He’ll need to improve massively on many areas, in my opinion.
Especially if the ‘game model’ that is being spoken of involves an emphasis on a possession based style of football. He’s probably even less suited to it than Rashford, given Rashford is just a technically more gifted and well rounded player than he is.

Best in the world now we've signed him. I have only seen him play in seconds-long footage underneath the post which suggests he is the next Kante and Essien all in one.
As you know, I watch quite a bit of the Malian domestic league, and in my view Sékou Koné is one of the top 4-5 young midfield talents.
Nice to see we're already proactively working on talent further down the conveyor belt as well as reducing the average age of the senior squad.
