I largely agree with you, Process. I'd see Toney as an asset in our squad, but was mainly doubtful of the signing because of his age/cost relative to the short-term and not quite elite impact he'd bring. That said, did Toney ever pass on to you a dodgy betting tip?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Never taking a tip from him again
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Robb would. In fact, I think he's take it all.

Apparently Al Ahli have a deal agreed for both Osimhen and Toney. There is a limit of 8 foreigners per team and they already have 7,so it could come down to a choice of 1 of the 2. Unless they shift someone on. Both players appear to be holding on for a move to a big European move instead.
The move to SA makes sense for Toney. He has the opportunity to make money far beyond what his career and ability would usually allow. I would be disappointed to see Osimhen take the money at this stage of his career.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Apparently they are trying to move Roberto Firmino to another team to make a space available. Firmino is currently their captain.

Toney is not an elite player imo
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Villa, Spurs were all in for a striker at some point during this window and none of them bid for him... make of that what you will
----------------------------------------------------------------------
400k a week after tax probs the issue, ontop of tthe 40m fee.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
the 40m fee isnt that much in comparison and none of them bid prior to him getting the big offer either. we will never know if he would have accepted a lower offer from one of the bigger EPL teams cos none of them seemed interested.

Do you guys watch football or just look at stats? I've never rated Toney because of goals. Ive watched him play, inc vs my team wheres hes been one of the best players give our def a test. Guys brilliant at linking teams and has been outstanding for Brentford. Not overrated at all imo.
If you seriously think he just scores pens and overrated i have to doubt you've ever watched him play and/or know anything about footy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is the guaranteed goals and natural scorer comments that we take issue with. Take away his penalties and he has averaged a goal every 293 minutes in the PL and has a conversion rate of a goal every 8.4 shots. He is a good player and has different attributes to Hojlund. From what I've seen of Zirkzee, he is quite similar to Toney.
I just don't get the clamour for a striker that has only had 1 really good season in a top league by the age of 28. Much rather let our young attackers develop, than play someone ahead of them that is already at his peak and not any better.

He mighn't be the biggest name to go there but he's probably the 1st real top talent to go there.
Usually it's lads past their peak or middle of the road players like Mitrovic & Ruben Neves that have went.
Osimhen is probably the 1st guy both in his 20's and arguably top 10 in the world in his position to go there that I can think of.

I rate Jordan Henderson above Oshimen tbh
Sounds as though Chelsea's salary offer to Osimhen was just €4m per year (plus performance bonuses) which is less than some of their fringe squad players earn. Ultimately he didn't do the lucrative Saudi deal while waiting to see if a big European club would come in with an offer. He shouldn't be portrayed as a mercenary for finding Chelsea's offer insulting.
It’s odd that Chelsea supposedly offered him so little but reports that they are going to pay all of Sancho’s wages.
Also, I thought the Saudi club had chosen Toney over Oshimen.
Been a total mess by Oshimen and Napoli. If he really wanted to move away he shouldn’t have accepted their new contract and expect others to match it. Napoli should have been more realistic if they really wanted to sell him too, now they’re left with a player who will rot in the reserves until they can flog him off for cheap in January or next summer.

The contract is the type you sign if you are rated as a big name signing. Reasonable release clause, increase in wages which was his first one. I get the feeling his release price wasn't reached (120 million I think) and Napoli just started acting like Napoli. I actually feel bad for him.
