It was amazing we actually took a lot of the chances we created today. It was crazy how our biggest win was 4-1 under Ten Hag when we had games we should have scored over 10 in easily all this time. Shame Garnacho missed that hat-trick chance.

Only way we will be successful and win the big trophies is if we finish like today for the rest of the season.

Just read that in Bruno’s 30 minutes on the pitch last night he delivered six key passes.

Given that that six included the two assists and the one he put on a plate for Garnacho, I wonder what his xA/90 was last night.

Double figures?

Not a crazy as it may sound, I think we can hold our shape and control a game more with 3 in midfield and use Bruno when we need a goal.

Problem with that is that he creates more than twice as many xA than our next most creative player (in fact, more than the next three *combined* looking at last season).

He plays more than twice as many progressive passes than our next most progressive passer (and again, nearly as many as the next three players *combined*).

Add in to that that he’s in our top three for non-penalty xG/90 mins, top three in progressive carries, top three in distance carried, top three in tackles won, top three in blocks, top three in interceptions…

Bottom line, you take him out of the side and we have massive, massive problems with chance creation; problems progressing the ball; no press; and a big defensive hole.

Put Eriksen in there and you might create, but bye bye press and your defensive actions. Put Mount in there and you’ll get the press and the defensive actions, but he isn’t going to help you progress the ball or create nearly the same number of chances as Bruno.

We’ve seen what happens time and again when Bruno is out of the side, and it’s the very reason why Ole and ETH have played him twice a week, every week.

He’s one of the best attacking players in Europe balancing his offensive and defensive contributions in both halves of the pitch, and we simply don’t have anything close to a replacement for him or a tactical plan B which would close to compensate for his absence from the side.

In short, there are combinations of three midfielders excluding Bruno which might help us hold our shape and control midfield better through games.

But any given one of those isn’t going to create anything.

We’d be watching something akin to LVG ball for 70 mins before relying on 20 mins of Bruno conjuring something.

Agree Rosso, I felt we needed a midfielder capable of progressing the ball with a good range of passing in the summer. We've not had one since Pogba.

Rosso, Bruno is kind of the opposite of the player who gets better in fans' eyes the less he plays, isn't he?

That said, I wonder if it's a bit unfair to judge the ceiling of the rest of our players based on how they perform in a side that revolves around Bruno. I imagine the others will tend to be more risk-averse to accommodate him as the player with licence to try relatively low % actions, and also with the idea of securely getting the ball to him (chief creator) in mind. And because he does play pretty much all the time, that provides little opportunity for other players to grow into the role of creative fulcrum, or for the Bruno-less midfield to build understandings that enable them to progress the ball better / increase attacking productivity through combinations as opposed to individual genius.

That said, I largely agree with your premise that there's a huge amount of wishful thinking about the opportunity to switch out Fernandes, a remarkably underappreciated player among our fan base.
