Palace - reaction

We hardly ever win in London these days.

Palace have become a bit of a bogey team for us in recent years.

Palace went into the game without a league win.

We went into the game on the back of a 3-0 league win and 7-0 cup win.

We were never going to win yesterday so we might as well be happy with the draw.

We were utterly dominant in the first half and still the better team in the second even though the game evened out a bit (as you'd expect it to). It was almost the perfect away performance at a place we've found difficult to conquer recently.

On another positive note, we seem to be looking more and more of a threat from set pieces. A combination of De Ligt being good at attacking the ball and the new set piece coach starting to bear fruit maybe?

Found the game incredibly frustrating to watch. Palace were there for the taking.

Our pace was so slow and deliberate it gave be a headache (well more of a headache... Not feeling great). And the finishing was the same old story

My two positives were De ligt and onana. Both starting to settle really well.

Played some decent football at times but so what....we didn't win.

We have scored 5 goals in 5 PL games and the only 3 decent teams we have faced so far we have failed to win any of them, losing two.

Scoring goals was our main issue last season and it will be again.

It's because our fans haven't had the long journey to get hyped up and drunk. They just stumble out of bed in London and a few steps to the stadium. A long away trip up to Man City where they can get tanked up on the train and show some proper support in the ground certainly helps, hence us having a better record in Manchester than in London.

Also - I never liked Dean Henderson when he played for us and I dislike him even more now

We're going to have to get used to results like that unfortunately, because our frontline just isn't up to the standard of other sides in and around the top 6. Unless Rashford finds form, we don't have a Haaland/Salah/Saka/Son/Palmer/Isak and it puts us at a significant disadvantage.

Performance-wise though - can't complain.

Our best away performance in a long time and should have won.

ETH’s changes when we were well on top killed us. Should have left it as it was for another 10-15 mins.

Frustrating one, we were really good in the first half.. Some great football. Just toothless up top.

Can we relegate ourselves to league one so we can be like the UTD of old?

I stick to my post from earlier in the week. First the three signings have, or will. Improve the team. DeLight and Zirkzee already , and I'm sure Ugarte will.
I would like to see Rasmus back, our main scorer. Rashy kept to his normal position. With forwards of Garnacho. Amad plus the three above I think goals will start to come. The midfield and defence are much stronger.
The way we played the first half in particular was excellent. As SE85 rightly says it's goals that count, but it's surely true the more good chances you make the more goals will come in general.
I'm very optimistic about the future , necessarily next week or the week after, and the season finishing with us all feeling better.
Whatever happens with ETH I hope he's not being judged on every game.
The clueless comments are clueless.⁸

I think there are few more clubs outside the top 6 (all bogey teams for United these days) that will also become bogey teams for United (if that means a team that regularly gives us a game and takes points off us). Simply because United we are establishing themselves as one of the other 16 clubs.

This is because we dont have enough good players in key positions to establish us as a top 6 club anymore.

Let's hope the new players United recruited this summer and the ones we will over the next few windows, turn out to be good enough. Along with the manager and his coaches.

Palace were so bad, was wondering who was worse them or West Ham earlier. Utd have to be wondering how they couldnt win a game vs a very lacklustre Palace. Even their fans were lacklustre, quietest tive ever heard that ground vs a top 8 opponent. Usually selhurst is rocking out of hope more than anythting, instead it was relatively quiet and cautious asif expecting a result.

It really is simple, get Mount, Shaw and Hojlund in the starting line up.

In league terms, get rid of dalot, drop rashford to the bench (unlikely to consistently win league games with the latter, too likely to concede with the former).

442 is the way forward. Yesterday's shape was pathetic and very non-MUFC. Now that Coco is no longer the liability he always was, the team, as a whole, does not have to defend so deep.

It's now long past the time when one of the top three sports clubs in the world returns to being proactive and not merely reactive.

Personally I don't find much to disagree with.

We could really do with one of our forwards springing into life in terms of finishing.

Eriksen showed us what we're missing at times in midfield but doesn't have the legs. Perhaps him with two midfielders ahead of him could work in some games.

Mainoo. Perhaps some felt I was critical of him yesterday. If I worded it wrongly then fair enough. I do want to see him get more involved though. I still maintain we won't see the best of him until we play a proper midfield three where patience is a virtue. Perhaps he'll never live up to his potential in this kind of United side?

Zirkzee. I like what I saw yesterday. Some neat touches and kept us up the pitch. Needs to add goals. Perhaps, for a game or two I'd like to see him play behind Hojlund with two of Rashford, Amad, Garnacho and Antony out wide. Ugarte and AN Other in midfield.

Defensively we look to have a better shape though and, if Shaw can return and stay fit (big IF) then we'll be better again. Perhaps just play him in the league?

I'm hoping we'll be better by the new year and that we give the Europa a good crack. SAF started his dominance winning an FA Cup, League Cup and European trophy after all...

That is because you have this very misguided faith in Mount despite all the contrary evidence that most of us on here can see.

Also Shaw is a liability because he can’t stay fit. And Rasmus is not up to speed yet and nowhere near it.
4-4-2 isn’t the way forward with the players we have.

If IAmMe ever bothered to to expand on his drivel, he would tell you that his 4-4-2 consisted of playing Mount and Bruno as the central midfield pairing (yeah, he has actually said this on other threads).

Getting rid of Dalot is also madness, considering he's the only full back we have who can actually stay fit (and beyond that, he's also quite a good footballer).

Plenty to disagree with tbh.

We would have lost if he had waited that long.

Where his changes did not work is how he employed the changes. Someone yesterday alluded to it. Mainoo changed his midfield position when Eriksen came on which stopped our fluency. Rashford going into the middle when Zerkers came off didn’t help either.

Lastly though, Bruno had one of those games where he was pants and nothing came off.

Well if Shaw stays fit surely that would mean Mazraoui that they would be first choice fullbacks. Although unlike IamMe I rate Dalot.
I would like to see Hoijlund and Zirkzee given a run out together, and Mount behind. then Mainoo and Ugarte.
Whichever winger is on form, plus who we are playing.

Dalot is very average 52. Defensively he switches off way too often and offensively he offers very little.

posted on 22/9/24

Dalot wouldn't make any other top sides first 11, he'd likely be on the bench.
Pretty sure the club understand he isn't good enough hence the purchase of this new maz bloke.
We need a new LB now though. Shaw is "ok" but injury prone and dalot is pathetic on the left side.

Would have subbed Bruno too.
