The ref was pointing 10 yards away from the foul? Strange, but it is Michael Oliver...

But that’s not the point is it?

He passed the ball back to where he wanted the free kick to be taken.

Ref literally points to Rice, the ball is kicked into the other half. The lengths people go to justify two tier reffing is amazing.

But its okay, because two tier reffing allows your keeper to handle outside the box so we can just laugh about it and say "refs hey, what are they like...!"

MOTD covered all those points and funnily enough disagreed with all your whingeing comments.

Actually I think the ref was pointing to a spot behind Rice which is where it was suppose to be taken from.

Assuming there’s no arguments for the Arsenal first goal when Arsenal took the free kick from a different position on the pitch? Only assuming.

You mean the free kick where Bernardo dribbled the ball 15 yards from where the foul took place? If he hadn't maybe we would have known where to take it...

If the ref wasn’t hell bent on an Arsenal equaliser I’m sure he would’ve pointed it out!

posted on 22/9/24

Doubt he knew, considering he didn't realise Bernardo had dribbled away with the ball. He must have assumed it was in the correct position, otherwise he would have booked Bernardo

Who were the pundits? I am guessing an ex-Arsenal player and an ex-City player?

posted on 22/9/24

Everyone else in the football world can see it for what it is apart from Gooners.

Everyone's against us

posted on 22/9/24

Hahahaahaha, MotD advertising "Confessions of a match fixer".

And I was wrong, the pundits do include an ex-City player but no Arsenal.

I wasn’t suggesting that they’re in on any supposed corruption. I was expressing disagreement with the poster who suggested MOTD panelists’ opinion is sacrosanct and automatically negates anyone else’s opinion on the matter, which is a ridiculous argument to make at best, daft and showing a lack of critical thinking at worst.

Neutral here - enjoy both teams and saw most of it in between DIY but the thing most are missing about the red, and I know it was for kicking the ball away, but the barge from behind was pretty brutal with imho no attempt to play the ball, bordering on dangerous. Trossard was, again imho, trying to break up play, waste time until HT was blown. He knew damn fine he'd just committed a foul but still chose to compound it by booting the ball to fck. The official response was the latter but I bet it was a combination of the two?

Ref was trying to get control and both sets of players were not helping. High stakes game I get it. But after trying talking to the captains then resorting to yellows it was pretty dumb of Trossard who was one of the most pumped.

Neutral as I say. Keano had it spot on - City were awful. Low blocks and narrow lines can be very effective especially against teams that insist on trying to pass the ball into the net. Nobody showing pace, urgency and whilst Arsenal chose to revert to defending ugly, City had to choose to attack ugly by taking more speculative, uncontrolled efforts and that is ultimately what got them their equaliser.

I did mention that Trossard's barge into the back was stoopid but 99% of the time when someone is given such a soft yellow for the first and hasn't committed other fouls then they would never be sent off for that, it's: "final / last warning" stuff.

So the fact that it would have been extremely harsh to send him off for that and that he supposedly received the second yellow for kicking the ball away (0.5 seconds after the whistle went when he had already begun his action to strike it) I can't agree with yellow being given for either situation.

Plus, you can't add apples to oranges to come up with a yellow card, that's not in the laws of the game, separate incidents.

We all know why Spurs fans are quick to defend refs.

'Oh, I didn't send Romero off because I wanted to help my mate'
'I went into the game with a plan not to send any Spurs player off, and even though 4 of them should have been sent off I cheated in their favour'.

Spurs are the biggest beneficiaries of corrupt refs and they are still trophyless loser caaants and their fans are still noncey little muggy caaants.

Trossard is a skillful player, he knew what he was doing when he hoofed the ball away like a Sunday League defender.

It was an over-violent, professional foul on Bernardo designed to stop an attack, that on its own was a yellow card.

fine Boris. Trossard got the yellow for delaying the game and not for a foul.

We can really debate on a foul. Probably it was I have to admit that. Was that foul a yellow though....mmh not sure.
