IIRC, Sir Matt won the FA Cup in this third season and the league in his seventh.

ETH is well ahead of the curve.

He just needs time and to get his own players in.

Imagine how quicker he would have won it if he had £600 million to spend

He needs the support of the board to acquire the right players that suits his philosophy. Stick to the plan.

United were probably the richest club in the first division 1. We used to break the record for signings regularly..

He needed to rebuild the club, so does ETH.
They are both strict with the players.
The were both successful with smaller clubs before they arrived.
Fans wanted them both sacked.
The youth team was being built up.

Gill wouldn’t have spent more than £600k on Antony.

So accounting for inflation, only about £6m has been spent since ETH joined the club.

Agreed. But it's never debate, it's sarcasm at best.

Back to the post.
We now have the makings of a very good team. We need a striker to finish the rebuild.
We too may have a class of 92 from what I read.

This is the optimistic look at things and that's OK. It could happen. I don't think it will but it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

I do think Erik is a good manager but his main problem now, IMO, is his authority. That was severely undermined over the Summer in a way Fergie's never was.

I think it'll be the next manager who comes in that will reap the rewards. Someone who demands respect from the outset.

For Erik to be THE man he needs results and performances fast. It's a crucial period this before international break.

We could really do with a win from one of the next two PL games (preferably and most likely Sunday) and a win in the EL before the international break.

Porto feels like a really big game. They don’t look too hot defensively this season - we should be able to get at them - but there are goals in that side. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that turned out to be a high scoring match.

Anything less than two points from the Spurs and Villa fixtures and a win in Porto and the pressure is really going to be on ETH.

Rosso.

The daft thing is that before every game I convince myself that we're more than good enough to win it. By the end I'm more often than not scratching my head.

Spurs at OT should be a game we aim to win. Villa away is difficult but not impossible. I don't know much about Porto but it does feel the next two Europa games away are crucial points in the season.

Somehow I'm hoping Erik stumbles across our best team. Wasn't it against Spurs a few years ago we did similar and played really well. His most effective team though, at present, could mean some of our favourites not playing!

Key I think is going to be keeping one or ideally both of Hojlund and Mount fit.

Twente demonstrated that we need that intensity we brought in the season’s opening fixtures back. Twente and particularly Palace demonstrated that we need to start putting our facking chances away. Mount helps hugely with the first, Hojlund should with the second.

Uniteds next 6 games.

If we are talking about history then I would be confident of United getting something out of all these games back in the day. ATM Im not sure. Maybe Brentford at home we can 'bank' on a win. Maybe West Ham too? Not sure about the rest. It really is squeaky bum time for Erik in October. I was happy to give him till Christmas to see evidence of a progression in results since the summer, to decide on his fate. He will need to reasonably get through these games to be even sure of that I suspect. I worry especially about those EL games.
