Must admit I thought he’d be a good signing. He’s not exactly getting a lot of protection but he looks lost. Early days though but is he better than Maguire other than playing RCB? I’m not so sure.
Very slow, always in wrong position. Should have gone for someone like Guehi
It's funny, I have been more positive about Maguire than most - yes, he has his limitations, but was such an easy scape-goat for problems in the team. But I don't doubt his attitude and right now I would make him skipper if he starts. I hope that De Ligt is just making a slow start, in a similar way that Ugarte is trying to find his feet in a struggling team, but I think De Ligt and Martinez are struggling more than Maguire and Martinez would.
But I have also said that even though we missed Martinez last season, it was more what was happening in front of them that was causing us issues regardless of who was the CB pairing. There have been little signs of that improving this season and we are a lot more tighter, but there are so many other problems, it's hard to be optimistic about anything
I didn't watch him much at Bayern where apparently he did well despite not being favoured by Tuchel. Did watch him at Juve though where he was awful.
I have to admit I was very impressed with him when I first watched him for Ajax back in the 2019 CL semi final, when he limited Lucas Moura and Spurs to three goals against him in a crucial match.
I thought he was impressive then but I'd never imagine he'd get to the level of limiting Spurs to 3 goals whilst playing in a team with 10 men. It really shows how he has improved and matured as a player over the years.
I was the first to call him the Dutch Eric Dier.
You guys better hope Leny can make up for his extreme lack of pace.

This might be up there with your worst ever articles, Robb.
He’s already put in a couple of outstanding performances, playing in a Jekyll and Hyde team with little protection from midfield and a new defence.

Another Lindelof?
Maguire our best CB?
Bayern more than happy to bin him off?
Sorry, Robb, but this is borderline aborticle territory.

Okey doke.
That Yoro lad is gonna have a lot of pressure on him when he's fit to play. Always felt that the thing United needed this summer was pace at the back, energy in midfield and a goal scorer. Don't think you ticked any of those boxes, although i know little about Yoro.
He’s already shown to be a good CB, and has had a couple of mom performances.
Not sure what basis this article has, as the whole team has been poor but yeah let’s just single out de light.
Martinez has been far worse this season than de light in terms of performances without a doubt, in your view is he a disastrous signing too?
I find it odd when some of our fans fixate on the performances of one player, without giving the context of the teams performance, and also other individual players who seem to be more fashionable, yet also perform poorly at times.
He's played 4 games and you are writing him off already. We need more ''supporters'' like you.
I’m not really a fan, but you’re being a bit harsh and making things up. The Lindelof thing especially, he doesn’t look weak as piiiiiss and easily bullied, for one.

Thanks for that RDD
I think he's signed for squad depth as much as anything. He provides aerial presence when the first choice LCB is short, is good in box defending, passes the ball more crisply and decisively than Maguire, and supposedly has good leadership skills (though that's quite intangible to us onlookers). He's also younger than Maguire, while having lots of CL experience. But ultimately, I see him as signed long-term for squad depth and as player with the right experience / age / ability profile to keep things ticking over while Yoro develops into the generational player we've bet on him becoming.
In short, I don't think he's a ceiling raiser, but his deficiencies only start to look worrying if Yoro turns out to be the defensive Tony Martial.
More generally, I think we're seeing systemic failures that regularly put players on the back foot / in positions where one player is constantly reacting to a failing of the previous one. (This was also the situation Maguire was in when constant firefighting led to mistakes and frayed confidence at the time he was being disgracefully treated by The Discourse.) So I'd tend to cut most individuals some slack until we have a coach who fixes our shape and tactics.

fortunately yoro is a pacy defender, who likes to step into midfield, where he adds energy to the team, and will also be a frequent source of goals.
but there's no pressure on him, really.
Also worth noting that Martinez isn’t nearly as good as some people think. Something about these Argy defenders that are class on the ball but not that good defensively, has led to them getting massively overrated.
