ok. so replay the game now with 11 v 11

Couldn’t they just have transferred the red to Erik and banned him for the next three games

I guess we just accept that even with replays refs don’t know the laws of the game. At the highest level.

A few brown envelopes changed hands here. Cheating barstewards

Not the main issue here obviously, but does anyone know whether winning this appeal rescinds the red card so it doesn't appear in Bruno's official stats, or simply removes the subsequent sanctions?

It's good news he's available. It's always good news when players are.

The bad news is that he never seens to be dropped/rested when he needs it. That's on the management. I'll never criticise a player for making himself available.

I’ve said it before, they are football’s version of the IDF. Wreak havoc on the innocent and play the victim when questioned on it, all whilst being backed up by the media.

Does that mean Howard Webb is Netanyahu?

I never thought this was a red card. So justice served.

Another decision where VAR could have made the right decision but failed due to incompetence not only on the pitch.

Both can be right

They literally can't

They can when it is opinion. That said I haven't seen the formal adjudication.

It’s another problem with VAR though, there’s no escaping that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
'another problem' - WTF even is that? Since VAR, more correct decisions are getting made - that's the only big picture significance. Now fans argue over grey areas and marginal decisions rather than the big bloomers. They are getting faster and better at it. DO you want perfection or go back to the really serious injustices?

Jeez.

Looks like it is now the thing to hate on Bruno, I am sure many follow some people's opinion to seem more knowledgeable.

Bruno is not great atm, but to think we will be better off playing the the likes of Erikson or the second coming of Weghorst behind the striker is just comical. Put Bruno in City's or Arsenal's team and he will be a fantastic asset.

It’s absolutely not the only big picture significance and there’s a credible argument to say that VAR in its current guise does more harm than good.

Of course we all want those big howlers to be overturned. But with the current solution comes a huge amount of problems that have made the game a lot worse imo.

One that will divide fans without reaching a conclusion, for sure. I can understand both sides.

Great, so now I've got to watch Fernandes stink up the pitch for three games that I thought I was getting a break from!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only thing that made the loss bearable. Fack me, we aren't getting any breaks

In two minds about that. Part of me thought they’d uphold the decision just to protect the Var officials. It’s absolutely a problem they’re not doing their job right but at least it’s being acknowledged.

Granted - your opinion.

For me, sporting integrity should prevail with most significant decisions being correct during games because those can't be corrected afterwards.

Offsides are the biggy for delays and they're doing something about the automation. Next might be line calls. All good direction of travel.

By overturning the decision, the appeal panel are literally saying the VAR was wrong to issue a red card. And they were objectively wrong - there is no opinion about it, there is just no way anyone can say what Bruno did was serious foul play by any definition of the term.

Believe me, if there was a grey area here the decision would have stuck. But there isn't. And people are absolutely correct to be annoyed about that.

Correct decision and it has made that VAR team look incompetent.

posted on 1/10/24

Who was the kunting ref that day. He should be suspended immediately.
We were on course for a comeback until the legend Bruno Fernandes got incorrectly sent off by corrupt officials.
This has essentially derailed our season.
We need to stand up and be heard.

Totally understand that view, but personally don’t fully subscribe to it.

The pursuit of perfection in decision making has opened up all sorts of issues with the game.

I like to think there’s a middle ground somewhere, but I don’t trust those who run the game to find it!

What are the 'all sorts of issues'?

Yeah there's some delays.
