Bring back Ed to run things.

Utd fans deserve a manager like Southgate. He will really bring the best out of Rashford and get the fans behind Maguire.

He will make the players play for him and support each other through thick and thin.

The media will say how Gareth is a real player's manager and that Fergie would have chosen him if he was Scottish or if Moyes was unavailable.

Cheers.

The good news for United fans is that at least they'd get some generous cup draws.

The people who wanted Qatar might well get their wish if they do something this stupid.

I don't think Southgate is possible at all. They will do their research and realise there's barely a Utd fan alive who wants him as boss.

It's going to be Ruud until the summer. The next permanent manager is a mystery though. I wouldn't even want to guess.

Potter seems to be getting his name out there a bit at the moment. I'm sure he's interested

We'd look more solid under Southgate and probably get more out of certain players. His work with England to reset and create a positive sporting culture shouldn't be overlooked either.

We'd also likely be dull as dish water to watch and fall short at all the final hurdles.

Personally I'd want Nagelsmann.

Your opinions do not matter to them. Its their money.

I want the youngest most talented manager available. I don't want a highly experienced manager who has lost his job at so many places. Kind of like teams hiring Jose because of his record. We need to be ahead of the game tactics not behind. Innovation, not stagnation.

Slightly more appealing than Southgate but not a lot. Another who wouldn't stand a chance. The pressure would eat him alive.

I think we are more likely to see a foreign coach arrive next summer. Amorim, Nagelsmann, Inzaghi, De Zerbi or maybe they will go for Poch again.

The damage done by ETH and the club with it's transfer policy yet again is going to take a lot of undoing. So much so that whoever takes over next is likely going to find it very tough. It's almost because a thankless task in a way.

The Glazers, with help along the way, have basically turned us into also rans.

How exciting. Finally a flamboyant manager to take utd back to the summit.

I was Ten Haag in but now Ten Haag out if you are getting Southgate

Hard to believe Southgate would top a shortlist for United for next manager. I mean that in itself is a damning sign of how far the club have fallen. Has a bit of a feel of Liverpool hiring Hodgson about it.

You lot ain't even at basecamp, one trophy in fifty years 😆

Do you really want a manager that the whole world just watched as he stuck to his guns and put out the same front 4 game after game after game. Ignoring that it failed every single time. While options rotted on the bench that could have made a difference.

Even when those bench players came on and pulled his backside out of the fire, he still persisted with what he'd decided was the right choice; in the face of failure after failure and all the evidence of his own eyes.

You really want a manager that thinks and reacts like that in an incredibly competitive league?

He's responsible for wasting the best chance England have had to get a trophy in my lifetime with his inability to make the most of the assets to hand. Why would anyone think that he'll suddenly change if he takes the United job?

He won't fix the problems at your club. Honestly, I think he'll make things worse.

Sceptical about that i report. Lots of claims resting on the very vague phrase 'it is understood'. Also 'sources close to INEOS' doing a lot of work. Speculative claims based on historic relationships between Brailsford and Southgate (ignoring that appointing a head coach isn't his responsibility, and Ashworth and Southgate (yeah, they were colleagues).

I've said before: if you put Southgate together with a genius tactician and made the former responsible for curating culture, and the latter responsible for innovative tactics and training, then it could just work. But hard to see either party agreeing to such a job share.

Same.

I find myself quite conflicted about this. On one hand, England have demonstrated impressive organisational capabilities, qualifying for major tournaments and reaching two Euro finals. However, many have pointed out the style of play has often been dull and uninspiring. While results are important, the entertainment value of the football being played matters as well. We want to see a team that excites and plays with passion, not just one that is effective and efficient but lacks flair. The decisions regarding team selection and in-game management have raised eyebrows. The use of subs, in particular, has often seemed puzzling, leading to questions about the coach's tactical acumen.

Ultimately, appointing him would be a very safe, corporate decision. It would be prioritising stability and a proven track record at international level over innovation and risk-taking at club level. While opting for safety first in management has its advantages, it can also lead to stagnation and a lack of inspiration, which is not what we want or need after a decade in the wilderness

Ole relegated Cardiff and Southgate Boro so there can be no doubt he has the credentials to step in at our hour of need

Pep would have relegated Cardiff Franko. I saw them about 12 times that season. Plenty of bottle but just not good enough. However, I get your joke.

What’s worrying is that for the past few years I’ve convinced myself this was all just some temporary malaise that it was certain one day we would wake from and restore ourselves to the top of the game.

However I’ve seen teams around us grow far stronger like Villa, Spurs, Newcastle, Brighton and others before we even consider City, Arsenal, Pool and Chelsea etc and with the amount of money wasted devastation ETH has been allowed to inflict on the club as we sit 13th in the league for the first time I seriously think we may be actually broken beyond resurrection.
