McTominay

We were right to sell but I’d rather him to Bruno right now.

I was surprised you sold him. Always seemed to have a goal in him.

He averages 17.5 passes per game. The same issues still exist. If he doesn't score or assist you're playing with 10 men for the majority of every game he plays

His goal scoring has improved but that’s still a little exaggerated.

Should we put a bid in in January? We have a big Scottish following and traditionally have had Scottish players and managers. Additionally we'd make it all back in kilt sales.

I think it’s important to have players who are content to be squad members, but who do actually contribute when called upon. McTominay definitely falls into this category and I reckon he was worth keeping. There are plenty at United who did far less and are still there.

He was often useful, English, local, an Academy player, and devoted United fan, but should have always been used as a squad impact player by all his managers at United and later to change the game when we really needed a goal, at the end of his time. Selling him in the summer with what we knowingly had in CM ie. Erlksen, Mainoo and Casemiro (ffs) and the unknown that was coming, was a terrible decision. OK we probably had to sell McT to get Ugarte, but.... here we are.

Let's see what 4za has to say about him storming it

He asked to leave the club, Ten Hag didn’t want to get rid which shows just how bad of a manager he truly is.

since his move, he has one cup goal (against a lower league team), the goal last night, and this "assist" - and i still have no idea how this counts as an assist:

https://youtu.be/Kw-JfQjVR5E?si=F81fg4GDbteqesDb&t=51

outside of that, he seems to be doing nothing on the pitch, averaging 18 completed passes per 90 minutes, which (impressively) is less than half the underwhelming amount he managed at united.

so "storming it" looks like a little creative licence from robb.

He’s a regular starter in a side top of Serie A. He’s definitely storming it. Certainly more than El Chapo Pogba is doing right now

Idk, it seems very unRobblike to create a lot of hype out of nothing.

McT was always a great option for Man United his Oct/Nov last year lliterally saved ETH and probably kept Man U in the top half of the table.

I was baffled how happy many were to see him go, he wasn't the greatest the talent but clubs need players like McT to succeed

Scotland and Bologna's Lewis Ferguson won Serie A midfielder of the year last season. Mctominay has some way to go before the fan be compared to him.

posted on 5/10/24

Also Mctominay already getting BBC headlines for doing normal things. Just because he has an English accent and played for Man U. Lewis Ferguson got nothing last season from them. For literally the best season by a British player abroad in football history.

What season would that be? Was he the best player in the league in his position?

"For literally the best season by a British player abroad in football history"

Bologna 23/24

League 5th
Coppa Italia 1/4 final

It's pretty safe to say you could pick several Bale at RM seasons that would destroy this epic record

posted on 5/10/24

Definitely didn’t make a mistake getting shut.

He’s doing fine in Naples, but he’s not setting the world alight. I’ve watch a few hyperbolic reels of him recently and it’s actually just him doing the bare minimum.

Luke Chadwick won the PL in 2001 so had a better season than Harry Kane did last season

The proclamation that Lewis Ferguson's season at Bolgna is the greatest ever season of any British player abroad is probably the stupidest thing I have ever read on here.

posted on 5/10/24

"Incredible knack of scoring important goals" in one outlier season only. He clearly had some value as a squad player but major limitations in his game that meant he'd never be a regular starter. Moreover, we've seen lots of players who aren't elite in the PL go to Serie A and smash it. And top Serie A performers fail to operate at the same level in England.
He also generated nuch needed pure profit at a time when we were in a tight spot with PSR.

Ultimately, why does a transfer working out for a player have to mean it was a mistake? I see McTominay thriving in a beautiful city / incredible club, and I'm delighted that so far it's a deal that seems to have suited all parties.

This is a very Robb article tbf. If someone new were to join ja606 and ask me, "Hey, what's a Robb article?" I would say, "This. This is a Robb article".
