"For literally the best season by a British player abroad in football history"
Bologna 23/24
League 5th
Coppa Italia 1/4 final
It's pretty safe to say you could pick several Bale at RM seasons that would destroy this epic record
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Luke Chadwick won the PL in 2001 so had a better season than Harry Kane did last season
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The proclamation that Lewis Ferguson's season at Bolgna is the greatest ever season of any British player abroad is probably the stupidest thing I have ever read on here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He won the prestigious number 8 award in Italy. It's not even just for Serie A players either. Previous winners include Xavi, Iniesta and Pirlo.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premio_Bulgarelli_Number_8
Imagine the hype if Cole Palmer had moved to Serie A and won such an award.
Bale was never even the best player in his position in his own team!!

ah what a prestigious award 12 years old and started by a Journalist. You hear every midfielder in the world taking about that award.. it's genuinely the greatest achievement they can achieve...

I don't think the plan was to sell Mctominay this summer. I think if they could have chosen it would have been Casemiro to Saudi. Since that didn't materialise they chose Scotty.
Whatever you say about his lack of composure on the ball.....we are definitely missing his ability to nick a goal for us.
I'd rather have Mctominay than Mason Mount anyday too. That guy is just a sick note and a bit of a fraud quite frankly.
The only individual award Bale ever won at Real Madrid was just making the squad of the season in the CL once. A season where he was heavily reliant on his team mates winning Real Madrid stuff.
Lewis Ferguson carried an unfancied team all on his own in the toughest league in the world.
He's the best ever British export, by a distance.
He was near the best finisher at Man Utd last few years. I wanted him to be our striker and I reckon he would have scored 30 goals starting as a striker in this team.

Yeah bang on! McT was a great squad player for us, I’d rather he’d stayed.
I am on about if he played as a striker in this team he would have scored 30 goals a season as he is good in front of goal. I reckon he would have scored at least10 of those big chances we missed this season.

Talking of Sancho his expected assists is 1.00 and he has 3 assists and his XG is 0.10 in the PL that is. What is funny is he has already matched his PL assists in a season record or 3. At Man Utd obviously his expected assists was higher than actual assists as is the case for nearly every Man Utd player.

Let's see what 4za has to say about him storming it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
since his move, he has one cup goal (against a lower league team), the goal last night, and this "assist" - and i still have no idea how this counts as an assist:
https://youtu.be/Kw-JfQjVR5E?si=F81fg4GDbteqesDb&t=51
outside of that, he seems to be doing nothing on the pitch, averaging 18 completed passes per 90 minutes, which (impressively) is less than half the underwhelming amount he managed at united.
so "storming it" looks like a little creative licence from robb.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not like Robb to create a false narrative.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re boring
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But he is right Robbsie. McTominay is not storming it in Serie A. You are just overdoing your use of hyperbole as usual, but on purpose.

He’s doing fine in Naples, but he’s not setting the world alight. I’ve watch a few hyperbolic reels of him recently and it’s actually just him doing the bare minimum.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Disagree, I caught a couple of games and he looked decent. Seems to be playing better with a license to attack. Not setting the world on fire but he’s arguably looked better than any of our midfield which isn’t saying much admittedly

Said for the longest time he should’ve been an alternative to Bruno when it wasn’t working.
McT would have been the type of squad player SAF would have had back in the glory days.
But he would never have been first choice, and currently, in our squad to not be first choice, why would you want to stay?
He's getting regular first team football, in a less pressurised situation so probably enjoying it more, and getting to experience a completely different life and that will have its benefits also, both on and off the pitch.
So whilst I didn't want him to leave, for his career, there was no good reason for him to stay.
Didn't feel the same about Sancho, who when we initially signed I was excited about, but if it doesn't work out so be it.
But any player would currently struggle with us right now, as we are seeing, and it's not rocket science to know why that is..................
I don't get how Eth thought Wout Weghorst was a viable choice to lead the line at Manchester United but didn't have the braincells between his bald ears to maybe give Mct a shot up there. Always wondered how he would be as a striker. Better than fkin Wout, that is for 100% certain.
We sold mct because he isn't a great midfielder, yet hes still better than casemiro, Eriksen and Mainoo (jury out on ugarte) and a better goal scorer than a lot of our current crop of sh1te.
It was madness to sell him. SAF would have made that lad a star.
I dont think that McT would have ever been selected to play CF for the Dutch national side.
Or in CM for that matter.
He's getting regular first team football, in a less pressurised situation so probably enjoying it more, and getting to experience a completely different life and that will have its benefits also, both on and off the pitch.

McTominay is now going for a league title vs going for a top half finish. He has more pressure to perform every week now and Napoli usually have passionate fans. Man Utd have less pressure these days as we can finish near the worst in the league every year and ten hag gets the blame.

He's in his first season in Italy. I don't doubt there is pressure on him etc. but he's still got a honeymood / settling in period and he's started off well. As for going for the title etc, that's the type of pressure you want and can enjoy.
The pressure at Utd of everyone saying how rubbish you are and where everyone is struggling etc - that's not enjoyable at all. Of course ETH gets the blames as manager, but the players quite rightly get slated also.
It's more enjoyable playing in a winning team and coping with that, than a struggling one.
there are no consequences of not performing well enough for Man United. The same lot generally get picked every week and they are all involved with the matchday travel banter and routines. The manager has seemed to have been given a carte blanche by the various owners to make team selections, setups and tactics, (that clearly still dont work after 3 years of trying), game management and subs, and he explain them away in nonesense talk and riddles, as he sees fit, in his postmatch interviews. The mood at OT with the supporters is at a low, all expecting the worse before a ball is even kicked, sitting in silence watching calamities play out, getting out-sung and humiliated by the away support who these days see a trip to OT as a Beano who just come to laugh at Man United. Its totally untenable and we've have had enough.
Villa Park is a very happy hunting ground for United in the PL era. All he has to do is set 11 elite international professional players up to be hard to beat. Any manager can do that. Then let's see what happens today. That bottom third and even the relegation zone gets nearer every week.
