Exactly.
And fans can also extend that to systems of play. Parked bus, all out aggressive high press high intensity, if you do not compete then you get what you deserve regardless of systems, subs, tactical tweaks etc

That's the least that's expected of the 11 on the pitch and professional players should never have to be reminded of that ever.
“I don’t want to be falsely rewarded”
No Ange of course not in an ideal world. But it’s not ideal and sometimes the opposition will be on top and we will be playing crap, and we need a change!
Also it almost sounds like he “wanted” us to lose, and not be falsely rewarded for our terrible second half !!
Nevermind the ideals man, just get us some points ffs

It’s like Ange and Arteta are the antithesis of each other. Arteta said he loves winning ugly - Ange says he’d rather not get any points as we’d be falsely rewarded!
One things for sure Ange is definitely proving to ba a divisive character
I want Ange to succeed but he does do and say some odd things.
Talks a great game.... But.....
Ange has so many good aspects. It seems baffling and a shame that what would seemingly be minor tweaks / adjustments are just of no interest to him.

And yet they frequently do. The Brighton players were asked what the manager said to them at half time and they said it was nothing tactical, just about fighting and competing.
Sometimes the players have to take the blame for their application rather than it be about the manager, tactics and subs all the time.

exactly!
They were passive and we were all over them. Then we stopped playing, became passive and they were all over us.
And that's what Ange is saying, we didnt compete 2nd half so we didnt deserve anything.
When you get what you deserve you should learn a lesson from it. Scraping something out of that game would paper over cracks. AT least Ange can now stand there and say...look what happens when you stop competing, when you are complacent or think you have won it !
The toughest lessons are often the most painful and I hope this is now in their heads and they learn from it. If they don't then you start to question mentality.

and there in lies the problem.
I like the fact that Maddison used the word grind in his interview. That at least acknowledges that we know sometimes it will not work sometimes the opposition will gain dominance and we have to get through that, and grind it out. So its not just a case of being all out attack and wonderful football, sometimes there is a need to really roll the sleeves up to get through moments, be then be able to assert our attacking game on the opposition. We have to earn that right first, which means we have to compete.

agreed but there's an argument there that suggests you can make substitutions to be able to compete better especially when you can see you are struggling and certain players are not performing.

Absolute nonsense from Ange.
10 minutes into second half we were winning and it was obvious after 1-0 we were beginning to not compete. So at this point Ange can suddenly look into the future and foresee we are going to have a poor half so effort on his part is undeserved and reward is not fair?
Changing it means at least he (if not the players) is still competing and could make reward fair again.
Everyone knows if a team is not competing the midfield is the most vital area. Just hook Maddison, Kulu and Bentancur and put a rocket up Bissouma, Sarr and Bergval and tell them if they are not dying at full time they will be fined and pass the message on.
Instead he just stood with hands in his pockets accepting the inevitable.
