Tuchel in talks with England

It doesn't upset me he's German whatsoever as despite being an Englishman myself I don't have a strong affinity with the national team at all and never have.

I just find it very bizarre. The Germans would never appoint an English manager I'm almost certain of it.

Don't want to see a foreign manager manage England, least of all a German.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I've come round to Tuchel for England on the basis that I wish general unhappiness on the people who would be upset by the fact that he's German.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well you would be clueless if you think there are any xenophobic connotations involved.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Where did I suggest that your objection to a job candidacy on the basis of his German nationality was xenophobic?

What does it matter? Overseas or home grown they all fail in the England job.

posted 22 hours, 9 minutes ago

I’d much rather have him as United manager than England manager.

Bad time for England to break the tradition of having only English managers as there aren't many viable candidates out there, are there?

Well if you did it would be. I didn't say one way or another. My reason is about wanting personnel to represent the countries within the confines of an international competition, as it should be.

I took it as given that a Scotsman or scouser shouldn’t be allowed so didn’t even need to list them.

Tuchel for England, Southgate for Man Utd, everybody's happy

posted 20 hours, 45 minutes ago

They should give it to those pundits with hindsight 20/20 tactics on a game by game basis until they draw/lose. If they win, they stay on.

An England tv/radio pundit manager league table can then develop and tell us how equally $hít they all are. Using the England national team as a reality gameshow gimmick is the only way to make it enjoyable.

A German managing the England team is a bit weird for me. I'm not against foreign coaches per say but having one from one of your great rival nations seems a bit strange.

I genuinely couldn't see Germany doing the same thing with an English manager even we had a top class one they could take.

Doesn't seem like there was any forward planning done at the FA at all in the lead up to the most obvious managerial departure of all time. Everyone knew Southgate was going to walk.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I reckon they had Carsley as their first choice, but it's pretty clear he's decided he doesn't want it.

Have to agree re. Tuchel as well, to me it's always felt like 'cheating' for a footballing nation the size of England to have a foreign manager.

Just give it to Potter if there's no one else.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Potter is a much better technical coach than Southgate so I don't see why we wouldn't.

Southgate did handle the media well tbf to him and he
seemed to inspire the players somewhat (although I can't for the life of me see why).

I agree though. It should be an English coach really. It worked fairly well with Sven but we don't have a deep rooted rivalry with the Swedes so nobody was overly bothered by him. Plus he was a nice guy too.

Capello was a disaster even if he was a great coach. It never worked right from the off. Language issues were apparent too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mosed suxessful England coach ever not countin that guy who was coach 4 1 game

posted 20 hours ago

Very tempted to do a wum article that lists the criteria for the next England manager regarding what they must achieve and their credentials etc, but it's all just a list of what Southgate achieved and essentially he is the best candidate to be his own replacement.

What, lose against the first semi decent team you play? go ahead

Would you be happy with the next manager getting you to penalties in the next euros final? The result of pens is yet to be decided. They're about to take the pens. Happy with the manager or want him gone before the first pen is taken?

Don't want to see a foreign manager manage England, least of all a German.

England have some quality players around now, it only needs a slightly better English manager than Southgate to go from being nearly men to winning something.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There isn’t a slightly better English manager than Southgate. Both Pochettino and Maresca have outperformed what Potter managed to do at Chelsea. Potter is a good coach at mid table PL level and nothing more - certainly nothing to suggest he could handle one of the highest profile jobs in football

Howe - possibly. But I still think Tuchel is a better manager

England fans need to get over the nationality issue. Look at some of the English managers we’ve had - Hodgson, Allardyce, McClaren, Keegan ffs. Carsley would have been the latest shambles on that list
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Howe, Hoddle, Redknapp, Potter, Dyche....all slightly better or more so than Southgate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Redknapp 😂😂😂😂
Dyche 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

posted 18 hours, 53 minutes ago

I’ve no doubt he’d improve us above our current levels but he’s not really shown anywhere that he’s capable of getting a club like ours back to where we want to be.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
What more would you want from his time at chelsea?
won the Champions league and had us 1st in the table the following season before injuries to james, chillwell, kante and actually had the most injuries of any one that season. Despite that still won the club woirld cup, super cup, and got to the fa and league cup finals and probably should have won both, at least one.

Where do you want utd to go if not for competition for silverware?
