Best centre forward in the world at the moment if we buy him. Overrated and only doing it in a crap league if we don't buy him. I have never seen him play.
posted 16 hours, 16 minutes ago
Ultimately, if Amorim gets the job and wants to bring him in, then hopefully the board will agree with him and we can get him in. But I'm not sure we are in a position to do that, no matter who we sell.
But I feel that there would be alternatives which Amorim and the board would consider also.
But then we don't know what effect Amorim will have on this team, and God knows, we might start scoring for fun again.
I really want us to be a team where, firstly, we actually do regularly score at least 2 a game, and then have the goals spread about amongst the team.

Last season Hojlund got 16 goals in 43 games. Gyökeres, when he was 24, got 22 goals in 50 games in his last season in the Championship.
If Amorim joins, and he's as good a coach as we hope he is, perhaps he can help Hojlund to reach the heights Gyökeres hit last season in Portugal so we don't need to spend 100m to sign him. Hojlund is pretty good when he gets the chances. It's just, at present, he doesn't get too many!

The only caveat I’d consider, is that players Zirkzee have come in got the chances, even though he’s missing them.
Why does Hojlund not seem to get the same chances? Is he getting into the right positions? Though that can be coached.

Yes, that's a good point to be fair. Not sure really. Perhaps he gets frustrated at not being the first thing our wide players look for? Perhaps he needs to improve his movement. You'd think Ruud could help with that. Like with a lot of out players I think it's difficult to judge them at present because we've been so poor collectively for a while.

But whilst he's here, surely if anyone can help our strikers, it's Ruud, although he can't put them away for them

For the last time Robb, it is not as simple as just buying him. We need to be able to make up the cost of buying him for FFP.
This is not as simple as it might appear but we do have a very good opportunity to make back the money on Gyökeres, once we buy him.
To calculate how much we need to make back I have used a popular letter scoring system to see how much we can make back from shirt sales with his name on the back.
G = £2
y = £4
ö = £20
k = £5
e = £1
r = £1
e = £1
s = £1
We have a huge opportunity with the ö here, and is probably why so many people wanted to buy özil.
So base of £100 for the shirt plus the £35 additional profit from his letter values, that is £135 per shirt.
To make up the £100,000,000 we would need to sell roughly 750,000 shirts. This equates to one per person in Old Trafford, over ten matches. I am sure most people that go to Old Trafford have plenty of friends and family so even just the Old Trafford crowd alone over 10 matches would be enough to make all the money back.
This isn't even considering online sales. We have close to a billion fans worldwide, so all those sales would be pure profit.
If all our fans worldwide bought the shirt then we would make a profit of just under £1.1bn.
But realistically we are just looking at making back what we paid for him, like we did with Pogba, which as outlined above, should be pretty straight forward.

The best way of moving forward as a club is to get a new manager and start buying players that he’s worked with before in that inferior league and knows well.
That can’t fail.

An absolutely huge point that everyone seems to completely overlook. Hojlund has a good conversion rate. He just doesn't get many chances.
Hopefully the new manager can sort the midfield out and we can start creating more chances. I certainly wouldn't be looking to spend a fortune on a new number 9 before we have seen what Hojlund can do in a functional team.
