Can see it now. Huge fanfair as we spank loads of cash on him, only for him to turn into Andy caroll, before leaving on loan a year later.
You know the script by now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fun fact - Andy Carroll is still playing (At Bordeaux)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing fun about that.
We need to start signing them as 17 million players, not when they get overrated
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe he wouldn’t have been ready for us as a £17 million player. Perhaps now he’s a bit older and more rounded after his time under Amorim he’s ready for a move to us.

We know from past experience that lots of goals in the Dutch and Portuguese leagues doesn't always translate to the PL. It would be a big risk to spend 60m on a player that only has a handful of goals at the top level.

I remember when people were writing off Palmer saying he wouldn’t work at another club than Chelsea as he’s allowed to be ‘free’ there which made no sense.
I think there’s some merit in that argument. But as I recall, it was specifically about him playing at City vs at Chelsea.

I say we wait and see what Gorky does after Amorim leaves.
If his form dries up quicker than a camel tird in the sahara it goes to show the boy plays for Amorim and we sign him.
If however, he carries on banging them in regardless then obv he's a worldie and we sign him.
Remember, Cristiano was offered to the scousers first for 8m and they turned him down thinking he was some spoofer playing for Sporting in a tinpot league. United ended up paying 12m and the rest is history. Lesson here is whatever his value, we buy him and why not pay an extra 50%.

For me, it depends on how much Amorim can improve the current squad and what he really needs. But I think it would be unlikely that we have both Gorky and Hojlund in the same team and both would play. So I'm hoping he can improve Hojlund and our front line generally, get the team scoring goals and there may be less need for Gorky.
But of course, he may come to the conclusion that Gorky is the final piece of the jigsaw. My gut is that there may be other areas he wants to recruit in.
But we don't know any of this until the summer, when Amorim will know what he wants
