When a senior referee is telling the on field ref they are wrong, it's unlikely it'll be overturned.
It'd be like defying your boss.

monitor doesnt always means you are wrong, it should just be viewed as have another look at it with the technology help at hand... Also theres an assistant VAR no so idk how all 3 of them agree its a pen and their boss Webb doesnt and most ppl who watched it back didnt? Again points to them sticking together bs and why people on VAR should not be known to the officials on field.

They don't know what they are doing and Howie the TV personality is making things worse.
His little moles Gallagher and Dean ain't much better with their attempts to defend the refs at every point even when contradicting themselves
Time for clubs to have a vote of no confidence in the PGMOL.

Noticed it a lot this season with the young refs being told to overturn their calls but the seniors not challenged.
Ant Taylor even did it when 4th official to get MGW sent off. He would never have done that to Mikey Oliver.

The issue is that if a decision is referred by a senior ref back to a junior ref on pitch, you have this experienced, influential ref necessarily, according to the guidelines, telling his junior colleague that he has “without a doubt” made a “clear and obvious error”.
It isn’t, “take another look at that, will you mate - it might not be quite right.”
It’s, “without a doubt, you’ve made a clear and obvious error there, sonny.”
How do you overrule that?

There no real 'senior ref' role in football though is there?
Just some weird and misconceived perception that certain refs are better than others therefore their opinion holds more weight over others (even when they are acting as a var/4th official)?
If they are that good why have them in the lesser roles rather than saving them for actually refereeing games?

When people refer to senior and junior refs, I read them to be talking about those with and without a reputation, experience and influence in the game.

You tell them your earpiece is busted and you can't quite make them out. Maybe make some crackling radio sound with your mouth.
Then turn it off until you've seen the video and stuck by your original decision.

Yeah.
You do wonder how they get these reps though, it can't be through their actions on the field.
I know it's easy to bash a ref for a crap decision, but with some - and Oliver and Taylor I'm looking at you - it baffles me when you watch them ref. They seem to ref the game based on what they want to see happen rather than what actually happens. And they get rewarded for it.

Can't wait for Michael Oliver to next come to Old Trafford. He will be getting abused like he can't believe.
That video online of all the City games he's reffed is a damn sight more than suspicious too. It's blatant cheating is what it is. Should be sacked. No active PL referee should be working in the UAE in his spare time. A complete conflict of interest.

Oliver is the worst ref in the country. Some people on here still somehow think he's the best ref on the premier league.
Seems to me that 90% of the matches he officiates end in controversy. The lad is a cheat.
