I'm looking forward to seeing how Amorim uses the squad: what he sees in the players, as the change in system (if he plays his 3-4-3) involves reimagining the roles of a number of players. I think it will suit Hojlund being asked to run the channels more. And Amad looks like a really good fit for the inside forward spots behind him.
BTW thought Ugarte had a very decent game. Did all the defensive work and the ball sticks to him when he receives in tight spaces, but his longer passing was better than I'd been led to expect. And next to Ugarte with less ground to cover and less defensive responsibility Casemiro no longer looks like a spent force. That's another reminder that putting players in a stable structure and asking them to do things that suit them, they can look transformed.

Amad is a quality player that should be in the team. He’s our best option on the right, and clearly has the talent to be a very good player for us. As you mentioned OP, he needs time in the team to develop but also play through bad games and build some form. I don’t know why ETH suddenly dropped him from the starting 11 but hopefully Amorim will give him plenty of game time in the ‘3’.

He can play with his back to goal, holds the ball up well, presses well, has that burst of pace, takes on players, has an eye for goal.
Honestly don't think Hojlund offers much. Seems to fall over a lot. Zirkzee is like Bambi on ice and doesn't seem up to the pace. Wheatley hasn't the experience.
Amad takes up good positions in the box too.
If nothing else those three, if Rashy keeps going, would be a nightmare for defenders.
I'm not saying be is necessarily the long term striker we want or need even. Just that we have difficulty scoring, our current front man/men aren't cutting it and we have no one else. Surely worth a go?

Kobra, from what I've read, Amorim likes a physically dominant, hard running, fast 9 who runs the channels. This meets the description of Hojlund far better than the role he has typically played at United, where he is often used as a back to goal target man. Every good piece of analysis I've seen so far of how Amorim and our current squad suit each other says that Amorim's arrival is very good news for Rasmus.
Amad looks well suited to requirements of one of the narrow wingers behind the front man.
posted 2 weeks, 3 days ago
He looked good last night from the bits I saw, seems to put the effort in which can't be said for a lot of players. I think if Amorim wants to play a similar set up to what he had at Sporting then I imagine Amad has far more of a chance than Garnacho or Rashford to be playing because he is far more comfortable playing more centrally.

I wonder if Rashford is a better fit as rotation with Hojlund in the centre than in the two inside forward roles (assuming Amorim deploys the same formation). He hasn't been consistent as a centre forward, but like Hojlund he's better as a channel runner than a back to goal target man.

Amad took his goals well last night and was our best player no question.
Can't say I recall a single chance he made for Hojlund/Garnacho/Bruno though. If I'm not remembering one then I hold my hands up.
Hojlund once again cut a frustrated figure and got very little service and if you watch him closely he does get into the box and he does make runs.
Once again I feel fans are getting carried away. Amad deserves a run in the team for sure but we are still a very long way off him being the long term answer.
I think he could definitely be a good squad player for us long term but if we want to start competing with City and Liverpool again then I just don't think he will be good enough. The fact he's good enough right now to start is fine as I said but it's mostly irrelevant because we are a very average team. I think Amad would have struggled to even get on the bench in great Utd sides gone by is what I'm basically saying and that's what we need to get back to.

Let's wait and see what his ceiling is as an individual and how he fits into Amorim's plan. There are lots of excellent players who wouldn't have worked in Fergie's great United sides just because the profile didn't quite fit. E.g. Veron wasn't a vastly inferior player to Keane and Scholes, but he didn't fit the system (or the system hadn't evolved from 4-4-2 sufficiently at that point to make him fit). Amad is still young and developing as a player. Concerns we might have had about his size and physical toughness don't seem particularly relevant anymore. He has great feet, a useful burst of speed, and such confidence in his technique that he has the luxury of spending more time than most scanning and analysing the spaces opening up around him. I have no idea whether he'll turn into a genuinely elite player, but I'm loving seeing him start to blossom at United and I'm looking forward to seeing how he develops under Amorim.

No issue at all with him and giving him a go. It wasn't long ago that Garnacho was the new saviour and Messiah though among the fanbase and it seems to have switched to Amad. That's what I'm getting at.
Personally I don't think either Amad or Garnacho are as good as Greenwood was to be brutally honest. Obviously that is in the past now and he could never play for us again but that's the ability level I want in a wide player.
I'd be amazed if Amad becomes a star player under Amorim long term. In the short term he could probably do quite well though as we don't have a great deal else to pick from.

It's a weird one, almost his the reputation from his spell at Rangers has stuck with him.
He's a fantastic little player to watch, great balance and agility, has a lot to improve off the ball though.
Id quite like to see him more centrally tbh, seems to have good composure and he is good in tight spaces.

Yeh, he has great balance and the ability to change direction very quickley. And I think that he will get the chance to play more centrally under Amorin.
I actually thought early in Garnacho's United career that he might have the ability to also paly more centrally. Its going to be really interesting watching Amorin assess his squad over the coming weeks to see who can fit into his system. I can't think of another team that plays/has played this way, so I am going to really enjoy watching how it works and how our players adapt (or don't).
