Needs to implement a style of football within 3-4 months. Seen hundreds of managers do that in the PL before.
Absolutely no expectations on trophies and top 4 but we should go all out to achieve it regardless as they are clearly not out of reach.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is how I feel.
I want to see a consistent style of football, an improvement of players’ performances (also on a consistent basis), an identity, an increase in work rate. Trophies can come as and when but this is what I ideally want.
What I think we should all agree on is, barring an absolute calamity from the new manager, if in 18 months say it’s all going wrong again then we HAVE to acknowledge that the problem lies elsewhere. We’ve had the experiences PL manager ‘chosen one’, an old experienced head in LVG, the special one, a united legend feel good factor and a highly rated successful manager from a weaker league, now we have similar to ETH but with more gusto that might get more out of our players. The only type of manager we won’t have had is top 2 ie. pep, klopp level which I don’t think we will get given the state of the club and the huge pressure - why would they risk their reputation coming to us?
I think every game has the potential to be tricky, even the likes of City, Liverpool and Arsenal have had to grind out results in games you’d expect them to win comfortably.
That’s what’s impressed me with Ruuds short spell, we’ve won 3 games we should be winning without getting out of second gear,

They’re still very reliant on Salah to produce something, but he’s always fit and currently on fire, they also have Diaz capable of stand out performances but not a huge amount outside of that.
We’ve seen this story before, so long as city are within 7 points come the new year they’ve find a new gear and go on a silly run.

Tbf there no such managers around. And therechaven't been for at least 5/6 years. That's partly why we went for ETH imo, trying to look for the next mgr with that potential which we got horribly wrong.
Amorim's about as close as it gets, and we've got him.
Long way to go but I think Liverpool would have to have some really bad injuries to stop them now. City without Rodri are more likely to widen the gap to the Liverpool right now than close it.
Not like City winning 5 on the bounce is good either though. Shame Arsenal seem to be cracking up at the wrong time.
I think it's difficult to know what is a realistic expectation of Amorim for the rest of the season.
I genuinely believe that this squad of players can perform a lot better than what it has been doing under ETH. I also believe that Amorim has something about him which means he can definitely improve this squad, even if they may not fit his ideal system.
But the players and him will need to get use to each other, and I think it's more a case of improving the mental strength of the squad and not just giving up so easily.
If he hits the ground running, and that doesn't simply mean winning games, but getting a playing identity and being more difficult to break down, then why not challenge for top 4.
But if it's the case that there are greater deficiencies in the squad than ideal, then top 4 may not be realistic, or it just may take longer to implement the ideas he wants to.
The next 10 games will tell us a lot - both in terms of the type of progress we can expect, and how quickly it might happen
And as much as it hurts to say it, I have to give slot credit for what he's done so far. I thought it might take a while for him to settle in, or that the players would need to get use to him after Klopp, but credit to the players and Slot - they are obviously giving it all for each other.
It's still early days, but Slot is showing a more pragmatic approach than Klopp, but still playing good attacking football and a bit more defensive solidity. It's not just about gung-ho football, there's more control there.
Yes, he inherited a good squad, but Slot seems to be improving Liverpool.
So early in the season, but they are favourites for me now, but not a foregone conclusion

Agree with this. Fair play to him and the players.
But him being Dutch did get me thinking, what if we'd hired him instead of ETH, would he have got us playing well and competing at the top? Or would he have flopped as well. He is starting at a team that is further along than us.

Yes but the squad has since declined. We didn’t do enough in the transfer market and are relying on senior players that have been out of form for ages rediscovering it, and youngsters improving massively.
Plus if Liverpool were the alternative to United this summer then it’s likely they’d have still got him anyway.

Just don't know is the honest answer. What I would say is that Slot seems to be a more natural and comfortable communicator than ETH. Which counts for a lot at the highest level.
No doubt the job at Utd is currently tougher, but we'll only really know how good Slot is over a period of a few years, but he seems to have the necessary tools so far.
True but barring a huge comedown from Klopp leaving, Liverpool have a floor and ceiling to the squad that is at least top three and at best first place. Ours is miles off that which is why I don’t see how he’d have come in and have us competing at the top.
Ange had a similar start with Spurs last season too.
City will probably still win it but I wouldn't rule out Arsenal either. They've already been to Villa, Spurs, City, Newcastle and Chelsea this season. If they get on a run they'll get back up there I've no doubt about that.
Alvaro Carreras gives Benfica the lead against Porto.
Bring him back!
People need to forget about getting CL this season.
We don’t have the players to play Amorim’s system, we really don’t, and he’s going to completely change the way we play football.
It’ll be an absolute miracle if we get CL football.
It’s gonna take TIME, and if any cant starts complaining before the end of this season that he isn’t delivering immediate results, I will track them down and drown them in a toilet bowl.

Yeh I get that but ETH got us into the top 4 in his first season. My point is that Slot has a better squad and he's got them clearly competing for the league. Could he have taken a worse squad like ours and got us competing for top 4 and more. The managerial of equivalent of doing it on a cold wet night in Stoke.

Yes but the squad has since declined. We didn’t do enough in the transfer market and are relying on senior players that have been out of form for ages rediscovering it, and youngsters improving massively.

Plus if Liverpool were the alternative to United this summer then it’s likely they’d have still got him anyway.

Doubt it, Liverpool have a much, much better squad than we do.

Difference is that everyone knew that Spurs were punching above their weight and would go back to midtable form. Weren’t Liverpool top until we ended their season last year?
