There's a lot of talk about which players Amorim may go for, especially from Sporting, but it's very early to predict who he will go for / if anyone?
No doubt he and those above him will have discussed matters, but a case of see what he has here and how well they adapt to what he needs before such decisions will be made, no doubt at the end of the season.
There may be one or two that he may say, yeah, we really want to for for him, but I'm not expecting (or wanting) a big raid of players from his old club.
Just looking at his games with Braga. I don’t know about the cup games, but the league games he used 3-4-3 every time.

Yeah, with the Primeira Liga, there are plenty of players who look (more than) decent, but just aren’t of the quality required to make the step up.
For every Fernandes or Ruben Dias, there’s a Fabio Silva or Darwin Nunez.
Amorim will know though. And he’s a systems rather than a superstars guy: Loses Palhinha, finds Ugarte. Then loses Ugarte, and finds Hjulmand. He’s done the same with his wingbacks and forwards. He’s the opposite of a, “Shiiiiit, we need a top midfielder, who’s available? Casemiro? Yeah, he’s the kind of calibre we need!” kind of guy. He’ll buy someone relatively unknown who everyone else is overlooking just because his game suits the system.
If there are some relatively affordable, good, probably young bargains to pick off which really, really suit his system (like Quenda; potentially Inácio, Araújo), he’ll no doubt be making recommendations to the hierarchy.

IIRC, he only lost two games with Braga, both in the EL. I don’t think he lost a league game.
Oh okay.
Some other sites I saw yesterday said he’d used a back four with Braga but I dunno.
Either way, I’d be frankly stunned if he doesn’t know how to set a team up with a back four. You wouldn’t pass your coaching badges if you couldn’t.
It’s just a case of how stubborn he is with this back three bullshiiiit.

Nah, I think it’s gonna be fun. At this stage, I’ll just be happy if he continues the (basic) progress we’ve made in getting these fackers running and in the press, and gets us playing out better and a bit better joined up up top.
I actually thought there was some promise shown yesterday. All three goals were very, very good goals. Well worked, and demonstrating that these players can actually link up, improvise and read each other a little. Amorim should be happy when he sees them.
Well it looks like Carreras who went to Benfica could be another option for LWB - you could imagine him as the type of young player that Amorim would work well with. I think regardless of who Amorim improves at the club, the left side is something that he'll want to sort quickly.
Could even consider getting Carreras in the Jan window if necessary

Another fun factoid: Amorim has ten left footed players in his first team squad, all of whom get regular minutes if they aren’t first XI players.
And he has kept signing left footers (most recently Araújo and Harder).
At €20m, it looks a no-brainer to bring him back, tbh.

Yep, I commented on another thread - probably not ETH's greatest decision given our LB injury record, but every manager will have made such decisions in their career.
But we have a back back clause for about 16 million.

I’m not convinced about Carreras playing in the prem, he even looked slow by u21 standards in the youth team.
I know it’s not the be all and end all, but when you consider that I don’t think he’s even nailed on left back for the Spain u21s, would anyone really be calling for us to sign him if he didn’t play for us before?
Wouldn’t that Miguel Guttierez at Girona be a better player to look at given he’s supposedly very highly rated and on the cusp of a senior call up?
I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do and for us to bring Dan James home for the RWB role.
No but at least he could have been given a go at the club before moving him on while have no replacements. I don't think he made a single appearance for us. Maybe he was gash in training. Who knows.

Not seen the lad at Girona, so I can’t comment.
We obviously desperately needed a LB in the summer, and I still can’t wrap my head around why we didn’t go out and get one, at least on loan.
That requirement remains, and even if Fernandez isn’t a long term solution, at the price and given his natural abilities and work rate, he’d seem an obvious quick and ready made option to me.
It's strange, he played in our U23 team, and I think did well for them, but never got a chance in the first team really - I guess ETH just didn't fancy him. Maybe he's gone elsewhere and improved, and for such a relatively low price to get him back, probably worth the risk?
