7 game ban for Bentancur

posted 1 week, 2 days ago

It doesn't matter where the offence was committed, they can be banned for what they say on social media, when not representing the club. The fact of the matter is that he committed an offence against the FAs laws and they therefore had to dish out the relevant punishment.

I completely understand where you're coming from in regards to the club being punished but he plays for the club and the club play in an FA competition and therefore they have to act when he made the comments in a personal capacity and not like Enzo Fernandez, with his offence occuring when being with his international teams mates travelling from an international game and therefore under FIFA jurisdiction.

Absolutely ridiculous semantics. Enzo represents Chelsea who play in an FA competition. Both of these offences occurred on international duty. Whether or not there should be a punishment is a different debate but they surely require the same level of consistency applied. The only difference is that one was being interviewed and the other filmed in the dressing room. So it's okay to be racist behind closed doors but not if you're talking to a reporter?

Fridgeboy, are you really dense enough to think it was only Enzo? The whole fking bus was singing it, and more would (& does) happen when the phone was not recording.

This includes Romero.

Bentancur is right to be banned. He is an underwhelming racist

Bentacur's was not under FIFA jurisdiction as it did not occur when representing his national team. It occurred in a personal capacity when he was doing a personal interview, in his home country. It doesn't matter where it is, it can be punished by the FA and since he wasn't representing his country and therefore under FIFA jurisdiction they had to act on it. They could not act on Enzo's offence as it was under FIFA jurisdiction since he was representing his country at the time of the offence.

You keep talking about occurring when on international duty by Bentacur was not on international duty at the time of the offence, he was in his home country, awaiting international duty.

It is right he is banned.

However, given his contrition and the actual seriousness of the racism charge, i think that a good part of it should have been suspended. Say 3 ban + 4 suspended.

yeah 3 games seems more fair also why dont they conclude these things earlier?

It was a farce that Enzo Fernandez didn’t get punished.

posted 1 week, 2 days ago

He actually got rewarded for it. Chelsea made him captain.

It is right that he is punished. Not sure 7 games fits the crime... but that is highly subjective.

It does seem wierd when set against the enzo stuff... I am not too clear what the difference is as to why one cannot be punished and why one can.

remember when Bernardo Silva got 3 games for tweeting that mendy looked like some black cartoon or something to which mendy replied laughing to it

this squad is a mess to be honest. constant injuries all over the place. suspensions for stupid things (particularly bissouma and now bentancur)

inconsistent form all over the place.

very questionable leadership group selection

and very questionable use of the squad by Ange

and very questionable transfer business, as usual.

whole thing stinks

certainly maturity and discipline issues in the squad

Absolutely ridiculous punishment and completely draconian.

And yet nothing for the other Argentina players pictured / filmed making chants about black France players

Both should have been punished, one by the FA and one by FIFA but got some reason FIFA didn't do anything after investigating.

Although agree with comments above that Bentacur's wasn't as serious as his intentions weren't to abuse Son this doesn't matter with the FAs laws. They consider two things was the language used insulting and was it referencing race/origin. Both of these things occured. So there will be a number of games for the first part of the law and a number for the second part.

FIFA are supposed to have the same standard but for some reason didn't act.

Does anyone know when the ban will start? Will be very annoying if it's over the hectic xmas period when he could have missed a bunch of early Carabao Cup games and rotate during EL weeks.

He said they all look the same, when referring to Son.

What are you talking about? It's on video.

No arguments from me. No point comparing other situations. Obviously rules around what the FA can and can't do, but if it's all within their jurisdiction then I think the ban is fair and correct.

Apologies I didn't realise his cousin was a 'they'. Didn't realise you bought into this 'woke' chit of gender neutrality.

Don`t know a lot about why the ban is coming in for Bentancur. But if the offence was done on International duty, why does not the ban then not include International matches? It seems like Spurs fans are getting penalised, whereas Uruguay supporters are not.

posted 1 week, 2 days ago

A 7 match ban would be completely over the top… you can get a lesser ban, for an assault, with a reckless tackle.

The world has gone mad.

Why ban anyone anyway… a massive donation to a charity of Son’s choice & a political correctness/woke course, is far more deserving.

Fully expect Spurs to appeal, for a lesser ban…

How does Bruno Fernandes get off scott free 🤷🏼‍♂️
