Conte won't be fired anyway unless Palace beat us amd we get stuffed by the gooners. More likely to walk anyway soon or end of season.

It's funny when the Conte Outers say his contract situation is affecting the team. Bunch of Karens.

I wonder if Levy will hit the panic button or does he back Conte and sees out his vision of the team.

Is there some sort of agreement in the summer that if Conte gets his defenders then we can mount a challenge next season?

The obvious one is the Liverpool way. It's what we should've done with Poch. Find the right manager and back him to the hilt
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Conte is that manager. Poch was reckless with money.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Harry was that manager Levy let him down. Poch was that manager for a while, Levy just needed to do his bit properly. Conte could be that man but Levy needs to let Paratici do his bit properly.

I've no idea if Levy will sack Conte. But at this point I'm convinced whatever he does it's likely to be wrong. And yeah that sounds silly or dramatic but it's probably true init.

Oh sh!t I remembered Paratici could be going to prison. At least we haven't got a rappist in midfield.

Yep. If there is one thing Levy is consistent at, it is making the wrong decision lol

seeing how Biss has done so far for us wouldnt care if he was

I don’t think it’s as bad as it’s being made out btw, it won’t take much for us to get back on the right track but like Nathan says one of a first choice CB, RWB, GK or creative mid is essential

Is Nathan like Siri?

I've always had a theory that a manager is able to give the team +/-20% of the quality of the squad. The reality of our squad is that it was a very talented small team in peak Poch era that from 16/17 went three or four years without really making a transfer that impacted the starting squad until Hojbjerg (whatever you think of Ndombele or Foyth or whoever their long-term impact at the club hasn't been felt).

As a result we've had a large rebuild of most of the squad which has only started to look like an effective strategy since Paratici has come in. Since Alderweireld signed in 2015 we've only had one genuinely succesful transfer in defence since (Romero). A large portion of this is due to all our funds being used up on the stadium which hamstrung us financially for a fair period of time (which is fair enough). Since then ENIC have spent regularly on investing on the team, but haven't injected league-leading amounts of cash which is probably needed due to 5 years of abject transfer failure/underfunding. I feel we are rebuilding well, but not quickly enough for most the aspirations of the fans and probably the manager.

Onto Conte, obviously he has his faults but the team itself is more to blame in the last two games I've seen misplaced 10 yard passes from Bissouma and PEH, Tanganga struggling to time his jumps when heading the ball, Spurs being out of possession 3 seconds everytime after Son receives the ball, goalkeeping errors etc. Some of the mistakes are basic skills that even amateurs are able to complete. You look at the bench and you can't blame Conte for playing these players - I wouldn't pick Sarr over Bissouma or PEH, there is almost nobody to drop Son for, Tanganga even came in for Sanchez and really struggled.
Even picking up on one of your points Windy from last Pod about Son being on the bench vs Leicester, there has not been a game since Leicester on the 17th of August where Richarlison, Kane & Kulusevski have all been available. Additionally we haven't been able to sub them off sooner in games when we have a comfortable lead because we have always been chasing the game until the last minute!

So we have an ok but unbalanced squad that has had a ridiculous amount of injuries, that still needs significant investment; being managed by a coach who struggles to play more than once a week in a calendar year with a ridiculous schedule; who have had a large amount of players play substantial minutes at the World Cup. Considering every CL side is struggling this year, it isn't surprising that we are where we are.

There is room for some optimism though, when we inevitably get knocked out the CL by AC Milan we'll start playing one game a week again and look more like the team that finished last season - especially if we sign well this window. Over the last year and a half we have invested well in the squad with quality players with a large portion of their playing career ahead of them (Richy, Bissouma, Bentancur, Romero, Kulusevski, Udogie etc). The negativity just feels amplified when the football is so dull and the manager seems so short-term & hopefully we beat Arsenal and they finally get found out which will make our reality seem a lot easier to comprehend.

can you summarise all that into a sentence plz

can't read that much in one go

posted on 3/1/23

It's a decent summary.

My only real bit of feedback for you is that you go easy on the board, describing 5 years of failure then say we're rebuilding well. We shouldn't be in a situation where we're rebuilding all the time. It's a systemic failure.

Still, good words

posted on 3/1/23

But why, when that time the money was instead invested in significant long term strategy to future proof the club?

5 years of abject transfer failure/underfunding
--

I dunno. You explain what you meant by this? Even if you forgive the lack of spending how we've spent has been a joke

posted on 3/1/23

That was more about the squad specifically.

In terms of on the pitch spending it was shocking for about 5 years, in terms of off the pitch spending we have a £1b stadium which has set us up to compete for multiple decades

posted on 3/1/23

Yeah I think you're going too easy on Levy and co for the football stuff cos they've done good at the stadium. I mean, it's valid to let them off considering how much the club has grown under them, but personally I don't think it excuses the approach to football we've seen win nothing.
